It seems that JD stopped supplying the o-ring with the fuel filter for my 5105. I missed this small detail when changing the filter the last time and now it won't hold its prime.
JD sells part R113565 to replace the o-ring, however this is larger in diameter and doesn't fit tightly so the tractor still looses prime. The JD fuel filter is RE60021, I checked Wix and they don't include it either.
Any suggestions on how to put this together?

Do you have an old O-Ring you can measure? You might be able to buy just O-Rings form another source if you have a size.

No I don't. I'm going to pull the filter this weekend and measure the groove for the o-ring. I'll try to find a source for the o-ring and buy several once i do.
Thanks

Measure the groove diameter and if possible the gap. Any place that sells orings like NAPA or other auto parts places should be able to get you an o-ring of the right diameter and thickness. Cant believe JD cant supply the right one. My Kubota fuel filters don't come with the 2 O-rings needed either but at least the dealer has them in stock for about $2 each which is highway robbery for a 20 cent o-ring.

You're lucky to get them for only $2. I paid $9 for the one I have and it doesn't work!
I'm going to go by my local NAPA store and get one of their filters. I was going to ask about the o-ring while I was there.

Have you tried asking the dealer for RE516553? O-ring kit, for the filter.

The o-ring they sold me was part 19 from that kit, they didn't have the entire kit in stock when I was there. I called several other dealers and they all told me that part 19 was the one I needed.

I certainly in no position to argue with multiple JD dealers but the parts catalog refers to 19 as a dust seal.

Yeah I saw that. I've considered calling in a service call and stand there and watch what they do.
I think the best thing to do is to get the size and find another source.
Its to bad its down by the barn and not up by the road, I could make a nice planter or mail box out of the **** thing.

I am a little confused as to what oring you need. Should not have to replace any oring for just a filter change. The filter has a built in seal where it fits on the filter base. As mentioned, the #19 seal is only a dust seal. Has no effect on sealing the fuel. Does the hand primer work ok when you prime it.? If not then you may need RE50467 primer pump. The check valve at base of primer pump tends to get dirt in it and causes pump not to work, and also causes loss of prime when it sits for any period of time. Also the rubber fuel hose from the tank to the filter may be cracked and cause loss of prime.
