Two weeks ago, temps here in TN were headed down towards 0 F so I added anti gel to the tank, ran it for five minutes or so, drove around the barn and put it back up. Two days later tried to start it, ran for a few seconds and died. tried several more times, same result. Figured the fuel gelled, went to JD got a new fuel filter. Put it on, primed the system, started up fine. Used it that day and parked it. Next week end, back to running for few seconds and dies. Added some diesel 911 to filter, primed it, still runs 5 seconds and dies. Fitting on return line at injection pump would not tighten, found it was stripped. Took it off, the rubber was bad. Ordered new line, put it on, primed the system, started up and ran fine. Used it yesterday, ran for 30 minutes or more. Shut it down and restarted it several times. Went out to start it this morning, back to running a few seconds and dieing. Temps are still below freezing but I don't think that has anything to do with it. I don't see any leaking fuel anywhere. Tank is 3/4 full, and has been throughout this issue.

What should i check first? Any test procedures to help diagnose what or where the problem is?

Sounds like it may be sucking air into the fuel system, when it gets cold all the metal lines shrink, if you have anything loose it'll show it's ugly head.

replace your fuel lines by tying/taping new hose to the old one to "pull" it through the tight spots. Fuel lines have been lasting just a number of years nowadays.

Also, get a bucket and drain a bit of fuel from the draincock at the bottom of the tank. Look for water. If found, drain more until all signs of water are gone. Replace the water separator filter again or maybe try to dry it out somehow.

I know this is a year and a half out but I had a very similar problem and maybe posting this will help someone else down the line. I went through the exact same drill you did and also had the dealer not manage to fix it before I solved it. Turns out there is a fuel strainer before the filter. It is behind the instrument panel and hard to notice if you aren't looking for it. Anyway mine was clogged up and changing it out fixed the problem. Part number RE220719

Thanks for sharing.

Some Deere manual fuel pumps (with a spring loaded plunger), can get the smallest piece of something in them and lose their seal. You can take it apart and clean the little rubber flap inside.
