I have recently purchased a Cub Cadet 5234d tractor. It has a front loader and belly mower and has 4 wheel drive. My problem is that it has no power. In only moderate grass the engine bogs down ridiculously and when trying to scoop a pile of loose dirt it did the same. In reading about this tractor I haven't run across anyone else who had power problems with these tractors. I have a John Deere 455 with the same horsepower as the Cadet that would never bog down when mowing. Someone suggested to me that the emission limiter could be the problem but no one knows anything about getting rid of it. Any ideas?
Zack,
I owned a 2006 model 5234D and I had the same problem you are experiencing. The dealer mechanic, a cub factory mechanic and finally a Diahatsu tech attempted to repair the engine and had no success. Cub Cadet took back the tractor and offered to replace the tractor. I declined the offer and instead asked for and received a check for the entire purchase price. This 2006 model was a replacement for a brand new 2004 model 5234D which was replaced for faulty transmissions and cracked front axle and a few other problems. The best thing about the 5000 series tractors was the 60" mower deck.
These 5000 series tractors where built by MTD. They are truly turds. That's why they can be bought so cheaply now. MTD needed to outsource the 5000 Series replacement tractors to Yanmar because they could not get it right.
Good luck...
