I have greased my 5254 drive shafts, both main and 4wd shafts twice.

What a treat! Found a total of 5 zerk fittings on these shafts. Almost impossible to get at. Probably fat hands or something. Anyone else have any thoughts on this or easy techniques they wish to share?

Still a great tractor.

If I remember correctly the rear u-joint on the main shaft is the worst to get to. I had my wife bump the starter while I laid underneath to get the grease fitting aimed in the right direction. Not anything you can accomplish with the deck on!!

While I was laying under my tractor today, a thought occured to me. It seems that the foot rest is attached with only a couple of screws and bolts. Could you not remove the foot rest and have unfettered access to both drive shafts on the transmission end?

I also found that if you remove either of the side engine covers you can very easily reach the fly wheel end of the drive shaft for lubrication.

My dealer installed a 90* elbow zerk. Makes greasing a bit easier.

Good idea. Wonder if Cub Tech has any input on this subject? My dealer sure as heck doesn't.
