Hello, I need some thoughts as to how wide to set my wheels on my tractor. I am doing a fall plow, so I looked in my book that came with the tractor there are 8 different settings. My main question is what would be the BEST setting to put it at and LEAVE it there. This tractor is going to be a farm use tractor, plow,disk,seed,cut,bale, I have the mounted 512 loader also. Thank-you for your time. Runit;

I'm not sure why you're changing the tire settings. The main reason they are changed are to fit into rows for row crop farming (cultivating, etc). You also might want the widest settings for hillside work. In the widest settings, you don't get as good a fender coverage. Otherwise I'd leave them alone. Ballasting of the tractor is far more important, especially with the front loader.

Hello, thanks turkflyer I just thought there was a OLD farmer width of setting the tractor wheels, and if there is or was, I wanted to know.

That tractor was my last project before retiring from Deere....I have them running all over the world, and know them well. It's a great tractor. Don't worry about the wheel settings.

Well, if you are using an older 3pt plow, the first row is run on unbroken soil, the 3pt needs to be tilted to level plow.

Plow 3pt frame is manufactured to run level with the right rear wheel in the previous run furrow. If the RR wheel is not in the furrow the plow will not be cutting level.

You need to make 2 adjustments: 1st cut tilt the tractor 3pt, then level 3pt on second & successive passes with RR wheel in furrow.

Running an on-land hitch plow keeps the tractor tires on virgin soil so tire spacing is a non issue.
