54" Front Blade - issues?

Hey Gary how do you like the 72 " blade on this machine? is it a loader blade and can you move a lot of snow with it in a relatively short period of time?

DP - I do like it and I can tell you a little about it. It's plenty wide enough, that is wider than my wheel base, so that I can angle it and still cover the wheel base, it is easy mount to my FEL, I did not go with the hydraulics for the side to side but can add that easily enough, I added a rubber edge which will assist in protecting my drive and yet make a clean pass as long as its not packed down. It takes a few minutes to change out the edge either to add or remove the rubber and stay with the hard cutting surface. The skid shoes along with the float on the FEL work well.

You blade looks great and imagine that it will work very well.

I am trying to learn about best weight practices for best traction but presume its a trial and error and situation specific senario.

I have a 1026R unit that measures approx. 45" wide - If I was to use the Deere 54" blade angled at 30 degrees, it would clear about a 46.5" path. I know a wider blade would be better and I've searched for 60/66" blades to no avail.

After reading most of the discussion topics related to the Deere 54" front blade, the only issue I can find is the blade isn't wide enough. I can't find anyone complaining about the trip springs, hitching or unhitching, weight, or anything else.

Have I missed any another problems with the Deere unit? I have a couple of resources that could weld on extensions for me after I get the package from the dealer. I could always hand a shovel to the wife so she could walk next to the tractor to help with the overflow...

I'm running R3 turfs and don't expect any traction issues - same set-up I used with a 4115 a few years ago.

I had the same problem with an X585. I ordered the Cycle Country plow wings and now the blade is 60" wide. No more running over bladed snow.

I bought my 54" blade in 2004 and at that time it was sold as a dozer blade and not a snow blade for the 2x20.

I would say it is not wide enough and the curvature is not enough to roll snow off the blade. It pushes verses rolling the snow off and this will cause you traction problems. My experience is that it is good for dirt but find something else for snow.

That rubber sounds good to protect the drive you must install the hydraulics it is so nice for throwing snow left to right and even for back dragging from a tight corner once you have the hydraulics you will enjoy staying in your seat.

What did that cost you, if I may ask?

Hey Mr.Roy I can only go by what the dealer is telling me but he says that blade should retail for $3400.00 (seems high I know) but since I bought the tractor he is giving it to me for $2700.00 plus 13 percent Ontario sales tax. I am sure there is a little BS in his story but 2700.00 seems fair I think I paid 2000 for my 1000 series 60 inch horst blade. If you check my gallery there should be a picture of my Kubota 7510 with the 60 inch 1000 series horst blade. That blade on that tractor has paid for itself 10 times over easily also here is a video of the Kubota 7510 with the 1000 series blade (if you have not seen this on youtube already?) Most full size ATV's push 60 inch plows. I can't imagine putting anything smaller on a Tractor. :laughing:

Agree as long as it is designed for snow. Put the JD 54" and Polaris plows next to each other and see the difference.
