Snow 54" front blade too fragile for snow removal with a 4115?

The 54" blade is one tough blade. It is a legitimate medium duty blade. It is plenty tough for a 4115. The mounting bracket is very solid and quite heavy. The reality here is that a 1750# machine can generate a lot of force. If one hits a stationary object, or a big frozen snow pile, kryptonite will not stay straight. This problem is compounded by the ability to angle these blades; the force from any impact is not distributed evenly across the surface. I would say any impact such as this would have bent or damaged any blade, except maybe the Frontier boom blade I had for my 4520. Of course, it weighed 500# and a 4115 would not be able move it well. I would say you had an unfortunate mishap that placed loads on the blade, bracket that it could not handle, resulting in the damage. I think the blades themselves are very strong and would likely handle almost every other instance.

Well, sorry I got back so late. Here are the plow blade wings i was looking at.

John Deere makes a kit for the 366 blade as well, makes it wider and taller. I expect it looks different than this one, I have never checked it out and have never seen one on here. I"m picking up chains for my front tires next week at the dealer, if I remember I will ask about their extension kit.

billyvan, i checked out the JD version and it was not as strong as this and the literature states that it is not for heavy snow/wet snow plowing with the wings on. The one at Northern tool is pretty strong and will match whatever the rest of the blade can handle.

Ok, that's good to know. No wonder nobody has the JD one. I don't really need it either. I was thinking some day an 8' rear blade with an offset so I can reach into my ditches without going all the way in as they are pretty steep. Then I could wing the snow banks over farther making my driveway wider. Not all that necessary but would be nice. First I'm going to try my front blade in the ditch again but this time with front chains on. Maybe with that and using the wheel brakes I will be able to steer. I have lots of power to push the banks but hard to control where I'm going when on such a slope. My driveway is a 1/4 mile long as well.

Yeah, I was all set to buy the JD wings, but my local dealer discourage them for what i was going to use them for as he felt I would not be happy with their performance. I gotta give my local dealer credit, they tend to be good about that. They have kept me from "experimenting" too much.
