54\"MMM or 62\"MMM

Can someone help me with this decision? I want to buy a new 2210 next spring with a FEL but I don't know which mower I want. The 54" or the 62". I now one a JD 214 I have had for 23 years with a 48" mower. Are there any pros of cons on eather one.

My JD855 is 24 hp. Deck sizes for that era were 60" and 72". Although either would fit, my dealer talked me out of the bigger deck. No regrets. My lawn is not super thick, but the engine can begin to bog down in the thickest areas.

If the 2210 has less hp, I would probably go with the smaller of the two decks you're considering. This is not really a suggestion, just probably the way I would do it. On the other hand, I believe some TBNers with 855s use the larger deck. I'd be interested in their comments.

More to the point, there are probably 2210 users that have experience with both decks. I'm sure their input will be flowing soon.

I've got a 54" deck on my scott LM its works fine, But the new 4410 has a 72" RFM on its amazing how much faster it is . If you have a flat yard I'd go with the larger one...GOOD LUCK

If you don't have to many areas where the 62" MMM will not fit I would vote for the 62" deck. By sticking out further it can actually make trimming and/or cutting close to something easier without the tractor getting in they way. I have a 4110 and I am glad I went with the 60" vs. the 54" MMM.

I have a 2210 with the 62" MMM. I can mow right up next to things sometimes negating the need to come back and trim. The deck combined with the hydro tranny really make for a precision cut.

I did not even consider the 54. When I bought mt JD335, I went with the smaller deck. I regretted it for a long time, so when time came for the 2210, the bigger the better. I have had no problems cutting grass that was 8" high at times.

I have the 2210 with the 62 and mulching kit, it gives a very nice cut. I'm pretty imprssed with how nice my not so nice grass looks. I think the biggest reason for the 62 is it sticks out past the wheels enough to make it easier to trim close.
Power wise it handles it fine, sure if the grass is long and thick you may have to slow down a bit, but normal cutting no problem.

I have a 335 with the 54 and a 2210 with the 62. Even mowing at the same speed, you can cover a lot more ground with the 62. I'm finding that with sharp blades my ground speed can be quite a bit higher, too (this would be the case with either deck on the 2210 I believe). I have mowed some fairly high grass with the 2210 and the engine handles it fine.

The only reason I can see for getting the 54 would be a narrow gate or tree spacing.............

I know I am on the mid-chassis (4410) vs your small chasis (no offence).

I was between the 60 and the 72. Absolutely love the 72, makes it easier to get close to trees when mowing, also moves through the job very quickly.

I have a 2210 with the 62" MMM. For all of the reasons already mentioned, I wouldn't go any smaller.

Even though the web site shows that the 54" deck is an option for the 2210. I haven't heard of anyone who actually has one. Most come set up with the 62" deck when they're assembled, or they have no deck at all.
