Re: 54\"MMM or 62\"MMM

I have a 54 inch deck for my 2210..It trims very well around trees and fits between objects very well in my application..The 54inch deck makes the machine more versitile for me..I had a 60 inch deck on my Cub for 16years and do not miss it..It is all about where you wil be using it. 8 inches really is not that noticable in the larger areas. In my opinion.. There is a joke there in that last sentence, but I aint going there.. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: 54\"MMM or 62\"MMM

I have the 54 too. I've got hills and trees and real tight mowing conditions, so the 54 is a good size for me. If I had flat wide open mowing, I would've gotten the 62. Anybody know what the weight difference is? I know the 54 is all I want to handle.

Re: 54\"MMM or 62\"MMM

I'll say that IF fitting a 62" through some areas is a problem, then go with the 54", but if not, definitely go 62". I have never regretted the cutting width of my 60" over the optional 54". You will most certainly lap at least 3 to 6 inches on each cut on at least ONE SIDE of the deck. Depending on how you mow, that can double if you are "straddling" a row of uncut grass. Yes, it is only a few inches, but translate that into X number of rows, and before you know it, you've added X number of additional rows to make up for the lost "laps". A 62" deck is probably really only letting you cut about 50"-56"... let me clarify that YOU are only letting it cut 50" to 56". So, the 54" now looks like 42" to 48" deck. I never really though much of it until I made my lawn striping attachment 60" - the width of my deck. The stripes looked skinny. Because of the lap, the rows actually turn out closer to the 52" to 54" width. Yeah, lap widths may vary, but it's not the closed end of the deck that we can't get right up to the edge of the uncut grass, it's the discharge side... at least for me. I remember my grandfather's old mower had a "CUT LINE" embossed on the discharge side of the deck. That's what I've been threatening to do to my deck for years... mark the edge of the blade on top of the deck (discharge side only) so I always maximize my cut width. On a small lawn, it is a mute point. On larger lawns, or fields, a few extra rows X a few hundred feet per row can add up. In terms of the extra width maneuvering, I'll bet you'll never notice the difference. Like driving a big truck... you'll get used to it. Also, your neighbors will say, "Man, He's Got 62" of Pure Cutting Potential!" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Could you give pictures of your lawn striping attachment?
