54\" MMM

I recently purchased a BX22 and ordered a 54" MMM. Everything I'm reading in TBN suggests the 60" is the only way to go because it has a float feature. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: 54\" MMM

I believe both mowers are suspended. Some get the 54" because they have narrow spaces to negotiate.

Re: 54\" MMM

I am using the 54" mower and am very pleased with the results. I have a small lot, with only 6000 sq ft of grass to mow - couldn't justify even a little more for the 60", and it would have been tough to get into some of the areas. If I had a decent size area to mow I would have gone with th 60", but no regrets with the 54". You should be pleased with the results - mows better than my walk-behind did!

Re: 54\" MMM

One thing I like about the 60 MMM is the extra 3 inches on each side gives the ability to get it some areas that the 54 will not due to the turning radius and the extra length. Both are good decks but it seems on TBN the 60 MMM is used by more.

They both float. (suspended from the tractor) I think what they were referring to with the difference between the 54 and 60 is that the 60 has a self-balance suspended linkage. I have the 60" and it mows just fine.... Tom

Unless you have a strict need for the narrower deck, the 60" is definately the way to go. The 60" has a self-balancing feature that gives a beautiful cut on uneven ground. Also I believe the 60" uses a heavier gauge metal for the deck. I have been very impressed with this mower....

Re: 54\" MMM

Thanks to all fo the feedback. It's pretty much a done deal...the 54" deck arrives later this week. My decision was pretty much based on the tighter spaces I will need to negotiate. I'll let you know what I think of it after I've used it a few times. Hope I won't regret not buying the 60".

Re: 54\" MMM

I don't think you will be disappointed with the 54". The 60" is heavier duty (although after installing the mulch kit on the 54" and drilling 15 holes - the 54" is no lightweight either). But the 54" still does an excellent job. For the 60" to do a better job just shows how incredible the Kubota engineering must really be!

Re: 54\" MMM

I don't think you will regret it. I was in the same situation. I thought the 54" would be better for the tight spots but I went back and forth trying to make my decision. I went with the 54" and love it. I also found out the 60 would have been a problem. I have two spots where I drive between trees. One I have zero space on either side the other I have all of about one inch to spare. Have fun!
