OUCH !! That is an expensive break down. Any guess from mechanic as to what tends to cause such a failure? Stress or contamination or ?? Is this motor unique to the TC or used in other Bobcats?

Hope you get back up & running pretty quick.

Got it running tonight pretty fast fix after you spend the money... I had three tech's in their office today at Bobcat and they had never seen anything like it. The Comer motors where a joint project with Bobcat when they developed the Toolcat if you do a search with comer and toolcat the info will come up...By the way that is the only Bobcat machine that uses Comer that I know of. The other failures with the bad drive motors with the b and c machines where associated with the brass sleeves around the pistons wearing badly, most of them weared bad enough that it would plug the hydro system filter and contaminate the whole system, I was lucky enough that my failure was contained in the motor and the case drain system and filter (by the battery) it did its job.

I believe some of the mini escavators use Comer as well.

What model Toolcat do you have?

Its 2004 and I believe it to be a A-Model..Not sure Bobcat hasn't told me the model just the year and manufacture date.

I thought I would post (what I'm hoping is) a final update to the 50-56 error code. During the last series of storms the intermittent problem with the TC refusing to allow the transmission to engage was increasing in frequency. At one point the Driver of that unit radioed that it had quit on him 5 times in one driveway. It was no longer functioning properly even at operating temps, which had proven to temporarily solve the issue in previous storms.

Out of desperation I finally loaded the unit on a trailer and hauled it the two hours to the dealer. I arrived just before closing and the TC would not allow me to move it off the trailer. It took approximately 20 attempts (shutting off and restarting) to even back the TC off the trailer. I felt bad because the employees were waiting to go home and had to wait for me.

In the morning the Service Manager drove the TC around and could not get it to fail again! Finally, on the following day the Service Manager called and said he got it to fail and that the first thing they found when the laptop was hooked up was the diagnostics could not find the CPU! It appears that the problem intermittently resides in the Console CPU. The Service Manager ordered a new Console CPU and was told that they are on back order. Somehow, he found one and with overnight shipping, it arrived today! They are installing the new CPU and reprogramming it. They want to keep the TC an additional day to see if that is the only problem. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Another storm due in on Sunday night! If there are any additional issues I will post them. Thank you to everyone that responded! I have tried to post all of the symptoms. I'm hoping that by posting all this it will save someone else all the time and frustration.

Man, I hope that's it! What a time of the year for problems...but thanks very much for the updates.

Well, The troublesome TC has been running since Sunday night with more snow predicted thru Friday and not one problem since the console CPU was replaced. It appears that the issue is finally over!

Thanks again for all the responses!

Does anybody know of this happening with the new TC's. I have just recieved on mine on Jan 10th 2008. It stopped while I was tramming it. It was still running, but would not move. I shut it down for 30 seconds and restarted it ran just fine. Have not had a problem since. The dealer wants to go over it but have not had a break in the weather. This worries me a little.

I'll be sure to mention your findings, thanks for all the info.

Just a pic of my TC with blower and rear box scraper/salter combo.

That is a nice looking setup. Where did you get the rear scraper?

What is tramming?

Tramming is a term used in mining for driving forward or backward usually in reference to a self-propelled machine.

Welcome to the forum Allan !! Had quite a bit of snow this season up in Ontario I hear.

That is a very nice set up you have. What brand/size blower? Hi-flo? Can you still tilt the bed up for engine access with blade & salter on the back? Looks like you might if you removed the tailgate.

Hope to hear more from you....maybe even some action shots. Good Luck.
