Has anyone had any problems shifting from forward to reverse? I purchased my 5740 in July '07. It has always been difficult getting it in reverse, but a few weeks ago it finally quit. It was as if it was not fully engaging in reverse. I took it the dealer and he said they would have to pull the cab off to investigate. It lead to some bad gears.

Point I am making is the dealer ordered the part from Montana, wrong part, waiting on the right part, the dealer is having issues with Montana not returing phone calls, and as of today there is no estimated time of arrival of the part. The dealer is great has offered to loan me a tractor if needed. It is a little soggy right now, so I don't need it but within the next three weeks I will. The tractor has been with the dealer for 6 weeks.

Has anyone else had warranty repair issues with Montana?

Thanks for the reply. I remeber reading your post beofre I bought my tractor, but no one had posted anything really bad about the tractors.

This is week seven. Understandbly that Christmas and New Year were involved but I am making payments on something I don't have. After this weekend deer season is over and I can back to clearing trees and cleaning up my place. I need that tractor after all that is what I bought for.

At what point to do you start to think about lemon laws, and making things right? The dealer has a loaner tractor but it is not my tractor, and I would not feel comfortable pushing brush piles with a loaner.

I'm not sure about the lemon laws in Texas for tractors. If the dealer is offering you a loaner tractor, then take them up on it and use it like its yours. Have you called Montana and talked with them about your issue? I'd talk with your dealer and ask them to let Montana fix it. If your are going on week seven now, I'd say thats going on way to long for these little tractors.

Sounds like the key here is going to be to keep up the communication with the dealer and you might as well use the loaner tractor. I've had no issues getting in touch with Montana parts dept. I may not always like what they tell me, but I can usually get in touch with them and if not, I'll just work my way up the chain till someone talks to me!!

They have some very good guys in the service department and they get all of the repair reports, so if I see something that they may not have seen, I will inform them and if I have a question on something, I will call and ask before I waste time re-inventing the wheel.

Just keep calling and asking them to keep you informed of what is going on!

TXCoastMontana,

Please keep us up to date on whats going on with your tractor. After I got my tractor back from Springdale, AR it seemed to shift much easier than it did new. I'll have to brag on Montana and my dealer ( Eddy Tractor ) here in Baytown on how well my transmission repair was handled.

My Tractor broke and the next day my dealer picked it up even though I had a way to bring it to them, the dealer, came and picked it up from me.

Next thing , my tractor was on it way to Springdale, AR for repair. My dealer hauled it to Sprindale, AR. I made a few calls to Montana when my tractor was there for repair. I was informed by my dealer and Montana on what they found and about how long it was going to take to get it gack to me.

With in a few weeks my tractor was back on my land and back to work. I was VERY HAPPY to find out that Montana and my dealer covered all of the cost for hauling both ways and the repair bill. My hats off guys thanks.

I am not sure what problems you have had with the parts department. I have called them several times trying to get a manual. They do have a policy of only selling to dealers but they gave me the part number to give my dealer. I ordered a manaul and someone inadvertently sent me the wrong one. When I called montana about getting the wrong one they apologized and sent me the right one immediately.

I would not know about warranty problems. The only problem I had with mine was the hydraulic hoses on the older style loader. I took mine to Montana in springdale :). The not only fixed the problem with the hoses they also replaced a steel line that I told them I had bent and was not a warranty issue.

I sent an email to Montana. Inquiring about the status of the part delievery. I recieved a response from Bob Goltz.

Dear Mr. ????????,
Just as you say, things do happen, and in this instance the issues compiled themselves. The order for the parts was received here at Montana on the 9th and parts were dispatched with one gear on back order from manufacturer. Of the order shipped one part was shipped incorrectly due to unknown reason (could have been pulled incorrectly by us here at Montana). The correct part was in stock but was held to ship with backordered gear which was past due on delivery promise from manufacturer. At the present time I believe that the dealer and the PDC have been in communication with a resolution. There is no excuse for slow delivery from either Montana or the manufacturer or for broken delivery promises from either. We appreciate the comments and do not want it to be said we do not want to improve because it is with criticism we install changes. If the dealer can not provide you with the information needed for completion dates please let us know.

Best Regards,
Bob Goltz

I called the dealer yesterday, and he confirmed that the part was on its way, and that they would have my tractor by early next week. So lets just wait and see if we get the right part.

I actualy have more faith in someone that says we just made a mistake and we are trying to take care of it. If you read some of the other posts Montana has bent over backwards in some instances to help people with problems. There is a post where someone was changing oil wound up running without oil in the engine. He admitted what he did and took it back to the dealer to be fixed. The dealer had problems getting pistons, rings etc. Montana finally sent a whole engine to the dealership and just charged them for the parts they were going to replace in the damaged engine. I have never had any problem with Montana but I would be the first to admit that living relatively close to the headquarters might help with that. It certainly influenced my decision to buy.

Was going to post something close to this, but I'm glad you beat me to it. Bob is a straight shooter if there ever was one. Not only is he very good at his job, but he has a ton of experience being on both sides of the fence. He has not just worked for Montana, but has been a dealer for years. He will not say something just because he thinks it is what you want to hear!! I don't bother him too often, but if I need to get a problem solved, he will always do anything in his power to help. All of the management at Montana work very hard to support their dealers and help the dealers support their customers.
