580 C BACKHOE DOES NOT MOVE

MY OLDER 580 DOES NOT GO INTO GEAR FORWARD OR REVERSE WHEN SHIFTED
IT JUST STOPPED GOING INTO GEAR
PLEASE AND HELP WOULD BE GREAT

I had a 580E, so not sure if it's the same. If it is, that sounds like the shuttle has stopped working. Right behind the engine, it has what is basically the front half of an automatic transmission. (hydraulic pump, torque converter, and basic valve body that takes care of the forward/reverse function)
Could be the linkage to the shuttle, the shuttle could be low of fluid, or the shuttle unit could be shot and needs to be rebuilt. Check the easy stuff first. (fluid level, make sure linkage is all connected and working) If that doesn't do it, you will need to have the shuttle unit rebuilt or replaced.

after sitting for a while does it start moving again for a short time. i rebuilt one a short while ago and found that the biggest problem was the pickup screen getting clogged. The first thing that i would check if it came on with no warning is the lingage sam
