I am going to get a Branson 4520 and need a bushhog. The 6ft looks awfully big. Over time will the heavier 6ft wear out the PTO and lift quicker than a 5ft or am I just clueless a newbie.

BudDawg, I have a 3520 and use a 6 footer for field mowing and minor brush control with no problems. If I had a 4520, I would get either a really heavy duty 6 footer or a medium duty 7 footer.

A 5 footer is too narrow and won't cover your track.

Don't worry about the PTO or the 3 point hitch. They are built for this sort of work.

I agree. A five foot brush hog won't be as wide a your tractor and you'll end up with a lot of grass that will be mashed under you wheels and won't get mowed. I have a Century 3040 and have had no problems with a 6' mower. I would look carefully at different manufactures and pay a little more for a beefier gear box.

Was looking at the SQ720 Bush Hog, 10 guage thickness with slip clutch.

BudDawg,

The SQ720 is classified as a Light Duty cutter by Bush Hog, and it weighs 632 pounds. Your tractor has a rated lifting force of 2580 pounds at the lower links. I don't think you need to worry about overloading your 4520 with that cutter. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Your tractor could handle a light duty 7' or a medium duty 6' if you want to spend the extra money for the wider cut or heavier construction.

Have you asked the dealer for a quote on a Branson cutter? They are built by Kodiak and are decent units. Implements are usually deeply discounted when they are purchased as part of a package.

BudDawg,
I'm guessing that the 4520 is 45 h.p. I have a 45 h.p. Century that handles my 6' mower with no problem at all.
