Mowing 5ft. rotary mower

Looks like to me that the pins on the mower that your lift arms are pretty high. That will limit how high you can lift the mower. One solution is to drill another set of holes closer to the deck and moving the pins down. Also I have a set of check chains which go from the top link pin on the tractor to the pins on the mower. This lets me run the mower much higher and get instantly back to that level if I have to lift the deck for an obstruction. When you are mowing high the tail wheel isn't touching the ground.

There's something wrong there. Try it the other direction, I can't believe it can be adjusted to cut any lower than 2-3". Also you need to lengthen the top link to allow you to raise the front and keep the rear wheel on the ground.

I think that peenwalk hit it. A lot of compact tractors need the lower pins moved down on the implement. For some reason, the manufactures set the pins at the height for a utility tractor even if the implement is small enough for a compact.

The top link extension worked!.I put my longer top link on it and extended it a bit till the length of chain on the cutter had some slack in it. Amazing. Let me raise the durn thing a good 10 inches before the rear wheel starts to come off the ground!

Well, don't feel bad. My first brush hog had a chain there and I tried it with the chain taut, too. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif It didn't take too long to figure out that it worked better with a little slack in the chain. Glad you got it adjusted to suit you. And that's a pretty tough looking brush hog, too. I think you may have gotten a really good deal on it.
