Oey Vey.......................
LOL....if you want real oil stuff this is not the forum..Go to NORIA forum...

For the user above that, "my time on BITOGF anyhow" Go please...That site has lost a LOT of people. They are losing users like anything since Frank (oil add) got a lot of people upset. Now gone. Even your beloved Terry is gone. New owner is poor at best and driven by the adds (aka $$$). Place is a joke. Post most things and you are banned....So sad since when Bob owned it, it was a true open forum..And I was a user then too.

What I like is today motor oil is so simple to use. Just get one with the low number you want in the winter and high number you want in the summer or at operating temperture.:D

lol I just spent a week on the noria site to try it out, half the time is spent bashing bitog the other half speculating and doing searches at bitog to confirm speculations. bitog has went downhill, but the noria site definitely doesn't replace it.........wow

not hard to understand at all reread it 40's are split

0w-40, 5w-40 and 10w-40 are actually closer to a 30 on base then they add both Pour Point Depressants and Viscosity Improvers to make it fit, hence why I said that the 15w-40 is more shear stable then the 5w-40.......

15w-40, 20w-40 and sae 40 are a 40 with Pour point Depressants. That's why 40 is split.

Excessive viscosity improvers or Pour Point Depressants aren't a good thing that's why its so hard to to create super spreads like say 5w-50 because of the required brew it creates an inherent instability in the oil.

Now It is still possible to make good spread spectrum oils, but the add packs have to be well researched and spot on. Rotella T-6 is a good example here its a great 5w-40.

So after all of the above what are your thoughts about using of Fully Synthetic Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 Engine Oil year around in my Kubota L39? The coldest I see in the winter is -25 Degrees F and the hottest in the summer might get up to 85 degrees F but usually stays in the 70's.

If it is that cold a 5w couldnt hurt. But if you want to use a Syn oil, be sure the engine is fully broken in.

If your looking for a 5w-40, id go rotella first, its a good synthetic. The amsoil HDD 5w30 is also a good diesel oil. The John deere 0w-40 also a good oil for the cold belt. The TDT is a good oil, you can use with confidence, I just feel the others listed to be a better choice.

We have moved to the T6 5W-40 Rotella for diesel tractors, gas big block engines and the gas generators. I am sure Mobil would be fine however. It is nice to only have one type of motor oil around the place.:D

At the start of last winter I drained the existing 15W-40 Engine Oil that I had been using and filled my L39 with Fully Synthetic Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 Engine Oil with a new OEM Engine Oil Filter . I was amazed at how fast the oil pressure light went out and how smoothly it ran even without pre-heating with absolutely no start-up smoke. I worked my L39 all winter for snow removal with no visible oil usage on the dipstick after almost 100 hrs with the 5W-40 but am concerned about the 5W-40 when the temps can get up to 80 degrees F this summer. The average daily summer highs are usually in the 70's.

nothing to worry about, those are mild summer temperatures, I am running 5w-40 rotella year round, if your really worried. Run it and get a UOA to verify both motor condition and how the motor oil is holding up in your particular conditions.
