Most mowers have about an inch.
2" is Ideal.
Some mowers don't cut the FULL Width they claim to, either.

Thought I would kick this to the top and brag on this mower some.

Since the updates above I broke down and read the manual. (If all else fails)

I set the wheel spacers so the front is about a 1/2" lower than the rear.

I skipped a couple of weeks and let the bahia get knee high. To my surprise this mower walked right through it and didn't hardly labor the tractor. Having load match on the 4310 helps.

This mower is a beast for the money.

I did spif it up some last year. One of the wheel arm bolts worked loose and had rubbed through the paint moving around. I couldn't get it to tighten so I stripped it down and repainted the whole mower. It also had a couple of bad wheel bearings. Apparently you need to grease those more than once a year. I put all new wheels on and saved the old ones for spares. I remounted the wheel arms with new bolts and put antiseize on the threads.

It still has it's original spindles and belts. Runs quiet as a mower can and smooth as silk. In my 4th season with it.
