I was thinking about a 6 or 8ft bushhog or a diskmower to clip lots off. I know the bushhog would mulch the grass up and the disk mower would just cut it . Any thought's on which would be better? Im going to use my tc55.

Afternoon Fullpull,
I would think that if you wernt going to do anything with the grass after mowing, I would be inclined to go with the bushog. Youve got enough tractor to run the 8ft hog, I would think that might be your best bet, although I checked your bio and you dont list how much property you have or how much you would be mowing ?

Got rocks? Disc mowers don't like rocks!

I will be mowing vacant lot's in the 1 to 5 acre range . I think the tractor would handle either also .

disc mowers are for hay

Bush hogs are what I call "utility mowers" - grass, brush, etc.

Unless you are cutting hay, get the bush hog. The twin spindle units might be nice on the '55

For routine cutting and maintenance of nuisance growth on lots...........rotary mower all the way.

A shredder is more resilient for this type of work......leaves much less behind, can handle fallen limbs and branches and rocks lurking amongst the growth.....and generally cheaper to buy.

A disc or sickle mower is designed for much the opposite-use in clean fields with no obstacles to lay down haying crops with the least damage to the plant as possible.

One is a hammer......the other is a scalpel.

Thank's for the info. The only reason i would want the disk mower would be ground speed . But the bushhog would be better in the long run .

May want to look at a flail mower for lots that size.

The guys that mow the roadsides here use a thing that runs behind and beside the tractor like a sickle bar but works similar to a flail type mower. It pretty much cuts up anything it encounters. I don't know what it's called, but I found an empty propane cylinder once with some severe cuts through it. I was just glad the thing wasn't full when it got mowed.
