Tractor
Kubota L3010 HST
The tractor arrived around 9 yesterday morning and the delivery truck promptly got stuck in the sandy part of the road so that became the unloading point. Fortunately my neighbor was there and they drug him out with his 4WD PU.

After getting all the instructions and finishing the paperwork it was time to get tractoring. This being my first experience with a tractor of any kind (not even a riding mower) I can't say enough good things about the Kubota w/HST. I think I got about 1/3 of our 5 acres cut down yesterday which I think is fantastic for having never operated a tractor. I'll post some pics Sunday.

Some newbie observations:

1. This tractor is so easy to steer it is easy to oversteer.

2. The FEL control is NOT an arm rest.

3. Backing the cutter under trees is soooo easy with the HST.

4. A FEL school at the dealership similar to the "how to" clinics HD has on Sat. would be nice.

5. The sound a cutter makes when it encounters something just at, or just over, it's cutting limit is just plain scary at first.

6. The oil pressur light is NOT the glow plug light and no matter how long you wait it won't go out. (I do know my left from my right but age and memory have divergent paths)

7. Rear view mirrors would be great. Gotta fashion something here.

8. The grill guard was not listed as an option on my paperwork. Perhaps they only sell FELs w/them at my dealership. Wonder why others don't. What's really going on here? The manual for the FEL shows the guard in the front page pic.

9. The pucker factor I have read so much about is REAL! I really have no slop issues but there are small "high spots" here and there and the first time one of the tractor sides went up while the other didn't, I "puckered".

10. Nothing can describe the feeling of looking at a job you did. (assuming it came out good of course)

Well, of to another 6 hours (clock hours). Happy 4th everyone!

Hey GS, congratulations on the new machine...I have 30 on mine and I would love to be riding today, but friends are coming over. Just wait until you get more comfortable with your new tractor, you'll love it even more. I've been riding tractors since I was about 5 and my Kubota is so easy to use compared to the older machines, and alot more safer.

Have a great day....and Happy July 4th....its good to be an American....

Enjoy, GS! Clementine is an L3010 (400+ hours) and she can still impress me with her strength and capabilities. On the FEL, I'd suggest practice with something loose. (Snow is great, but probably something you don't see down there!) Sand or loose dirt is great. Pay attention to the level of your bucket and the point at which you start to curl it. Use the wax on -- wax off method to memorize the controls. You'll get the hang of it real fast!

A note on safety. The salesman who delivered my tractor said I was the first one he had ever seen put the seat belt on. Hard to belive.

Garagesmoker,
It sounds like you have had a great time with your new machine. When I was shopping for my 'bota, the grill guard was included with the Kubota FEL but a $150 option on the Bush Hog FEL. That must be one of the ways that they lower the price to make it more appealing to go aftermarket. Personally, I wouldn't have a loader without a grill guard of some sort. I'm even thinking of adding to mine by putting an expanded metal screen on the front of it.
Best of luck to you and your new machine,
Jeff

GS,

Congrats. Sounds great. I put 5 hours on my L3410 on Wednesday. The temp was 101. By the time I was done I felt like a wet noodle. But the tractor never even got hot. You're going to love that tractor for years to come.

How about some pics. Here's mine.

15 hours after 3 days. Land is 3/4 cleared (I hope). I'll have pictures Sunday assuming I finish.

What a great machine! Congrats on yours!

Congratulations on your new L3010. Hope everything is going great. Sounds like it. I wish I could say the same for my B7500. I have posted several times about my problem. Otherwise I like my tractor. Hopefully everything will be fine once I talk to the dealer.

Enjoy your new machine!
