The tractor arrived around 9 yesterday morning and the delivery truck promptly got stuck in the sandy part of the road so that became the unloading point. Fortunately my neighbor was there and they drug him out with his 4WD PU.
After getting all the instructions and finishing the paperwork it was time to get tractoring. This being my first experience with a tractor of any kind (not even a riding mower) I can't say enough good things about the Kubota w/HST. I think I got about 1/3 of our 5 acres cut down yesterday which I think is fantastic for having never operated a tractor. I'll post some pics Sunday.
Some newbie observations:
1. This tractor is so easy to steer it is easy to oversteer.
2. The FEL control is NOT an arm rest.
3. Backing the cutter under trees is soooo easy with the HST.
4. A FEL school at the dealership similar to the "how to" clinics HD has on Sat. would be nice.
5. The sound a cutter makes when it encounters something just at, or just over, it's cutting limit is just plain scary at first.
6. The oil pressur light is NOT the glow plug light and no matter how long you wait it won't go out. (I do know my left from my right but age and memory have divergent paths)
7. Rear view mirrors would be great. Gotta fashion something here.
8. The grill guard was not listed as an option on my paperwork. Perhaps they only sell FELs w/them at my dealership. Wonder why others don't. What's really going on here? The manual for the FEL shows the guard in the front page pic.
9. The pucker factor I have read so much about is REAL! I really have no slop issues but there are small "high spots" here and there and the first time one of the tractor sides went up while the other didn't, I "puckered".
10. Nothing can describe the feeling of looking at a job you did. (assuming it came out good of course)
Well, of to another 6 hours (clock hours). Happy 4th everyone!
