I was born in California and grew up there. At one point in time, I thought it was the greatest place to live, but then something clicked in my brain, and I felt like living there was the worse thing in the world. I just wanted to leave and go someplace else.
I've only been back once in four years, and that wasn't something that I'm eager to repeat. Reading posts like this, and what is reported in the news about living there just makes me so very glad I moved away.

California can sure mess things up. I am a native and moved away 38 years ago when I was 3 years old, the only reason I go back is to see a few uncles and aunts that have yet to move out.

For me California is "Granola Land". What ever isn't fruit or nuts is flakes. While this, like all generalizations, is not completely true, it is a good starting point.

Unfortunately, the old joke only provides a marginal descriptor for my fellow citizens who are too afraid of rural living or, are too addicted to urban "services" to actually commit themselves to a "country" life, or are just plain city folks (yuck). I assure you that there are plenty of us certifiable crazies in Kalifornia that wouldn't be associated with the "fruits, nuts or flakes" that you reference even if our life depended on it. I don't even like food that doesn't bleed (unless it doesn't have salt on it).

We all live where we live because we choose too! kinda like the tractors we ride and auto's we drive. No Need To Bag on peoples homes! or tractors! I would never live in WI,TX,SD,FL,NM,KS,SC,NY and ran from N.J. I could beat the horse dead on some places and I have been to almost all of them. So Hey No bagging please.
