I am going to look at a 10 yo TSC Tiller (King Kutter) not sure? He says it pretty worn. and has sat in the woods the last three years or so. My question is any idea how much i would be looking at for new tines? What else should I look at besides gear box lube? The price is right other wise I would stay away. Thanks

Never hurts to look and investigate but if you need vary many parts to rebuild the tiller you would be better off with a new one. I like building new stuff more than rebuilding old stuff.:)

I'm wondering how they wore it out in 10 years. I have the same tiller, it's 10+ years old and I easily have a hundred hours on the thing, and it's in good shape.

Does the gearbox turn?

Tines should be cheap. If the gearboxes are frozen up, this could get expensive.

I use KK tines on my grey market rebuilds (add new flanges to the old shafts) depending on the store, I'd say for a 6 footer in the $350-$400 with new bolts. Does the tiller come with a slip clutch? If not add another $100. The old tine can be used down to nothin' though. Around here the KK distributor gets about Two Thousand for a new one shipped in. bjr

iplumb,
Have you looked at it yet? I would not be overly concerned about the three years the tiller sat outside as much as what it needs to get it fixed. You need to give it a look and see how cheap you can buy it. I would pick it up high enough to see if it turns smoothly by hand . If it does I would offer $100 to buy it and take it home to clean it up. If it is a train wreck I would pass. Without pictures it is hard to tell but $100 bucks is not much to risk.

Is it a Caroni Brand? Agri-Supply sells new ones and parts. It might just need a new chain.
I bought a 4 Caroni last spring and it does a great job.

Hey thanks...He says that the tines are worn but still work. He thinks it leaks a little oil? Its over an hour away from me under 2' of snow. He's going to send me some pictures when the snow melts.

I have a Howard HX rototiller that is probably about 20 years old. The tines on it are completely worn out. It was used in sandy soil with some rocks. The sand really eats tines. It will cost me about 300+ dollars to replace all the tines. However the rototiller is in great shape here is my tiller. I repainted it and cleaned it up. Now I am saving up for blades. I would get it for as cheap as possible and then consider rebuilding it if it is cost effective if not then you have spare parts. PC230052.JPG
