I’m thinking about a 6 way dozer for my T650. Looking for input from someone that has experience with them. I’ve seen a lot of info that suggests they aren’t very effective over a bucket and are difficult to use. One salesman told be they make an experienced dozer operator look like a rookie. I’m mostly wanting it to repair terraces in fields and other dirt work.

The only place I see them is for sale, used but barely.
You have a T 650 I see, you know how it pushes without transferring the bucket weight to the machine when cutting or loading a bucker full. A dozer blade need's weight more than HP, the more the better. Your machine probably has as much HP or more than a small dozer that (depending on the size) might weigh half again or twice as much as your T650. Then there's the tracks but that's another part of the equation. I ended up with a "tilt attach" that go's between your loader and the bucket. It tilt's about 15* each direction from level. Much cheaper and IMHO more effective. See if you can rent or demo one. I think you'll be happy and have $4k left over in your pocket.

I bought a new one some years ago for a T190. Was told they were a joke on a skid loader. Bought one anyway. It was. Use a bucket for most everything again. I would see about renting a dozer with one.

I had already thought about a tilt tach, and had pretty much made up my mint on one but thought I’d look here first before made a purchase. I understand the weight transfer and I think another difference with a cat, at least with straight blade, is pivot point of blade further back on undercarriage. I’m probably just going to go ahead with the tilt tach. While looking into this, I found an interesting Case experimental machine trying to bridge the gap.

I had one on a 95 Kubota. It was absolutely useless. It sticks out way too far from the tracks and you can’t control it at all. If it had gauge wheels it might be better A tilt attachment for the bucket would be far better.

For those that haven't seen a tilt-tach:

I have a decent sized bull dozer and when I need it, it's impressive, but most of the time I back drag with my loader bucket to smooth out dirt. I've rented skid steers for jobs that I was doing and I found it to be pretty easy to get nice results by back dragging with the bucket on those too. Before spending any money on something that will more then likely be frustrating and not accomplish what you want, put some time into back dragging with your bucket to see if you can get the results that you are wanting.
