Most of the Yellow Jacket nests around my area are underground. I always make sure to get both holes when eradicating.

I just killed a nest by poring some gas in it, wait one minute and ignite.

can you expand on that? not sure I knew of the second hole... how far away is it?

the doc who delivered me a long time ago died after being stung by three yellow jackets. Three... immediately given an epi shot by his wife, rescue squad there soon,
dead three hours later at hospital. Shocked the whole community.
do yellow jackets have any redeeming value, like pollen transfer in a honey bee?

I don't know about yellowjackets specifically, but wasps in general can be an effective form of garden pest control.

Yes Sir: Underground Yellow Jackets, when they build underground, will have two holes - one the entrance hole and one for exiting. The distance between the holes varies depending on the size of the nest.

If possible, find both holes before taking eradication measures because the Yellow Jackets are real mad at the time they are exiting. Just a thought?

That's a huge nest, I wonder how close you had to get to be attacked. Would have made a good tourist attraction! Yellow jackets don't pollenate, but they do eat other insects and other things that help clean up. I personally leave them alone if they're not in my way.... of course here they die every year so maximum size is thankfully limited.
