60\" BB with 20HP CUT ?

Hi all, I ordered a 48" King Kutter CAT1 BB from TSC about a month ago and they still don't have any details of when it'll be in. I'm wondering if I could just buy the 60" they have there or if it'll be too much for my tractor? Has anyone tried a 60" with a 20HP diesel CUT?

I would be willing to buy from someone else locally if I had an idea how to locate a box blade dealer.

Don't even think about it, that 20hp tractor won't pull a 60" BB. You will be greatly dissapointed.
It will have a hard time pulling a 48" in heavy clay if you don't fill the rear tires.

It's not about HP, it's about traction force. You should be able to find the rateing for your's somewhere, but I would be surprised if it was more than 1000 pounds. There are of course a lot of variables that effect that number such as tractor weight, tire presure, tread condition, surface that wheel traction is being applied to weight distribution, ect so you may not even be getting that much force in some conditions.

Soil is going to weigh around 80-100 pounds per cubic foot(again lots of variables with moisture and composition). A 60" box scraper with I am guessing about 3' sidewalls 12+ inches high will hold around 15 cubic feet or 1200 pounds of soil/rock when full. Add the impliment weight and the drag involved when you try to move it across the ground and you are talking some serious force required.

A full 48" X 24" X 12+" box will probably hold around 700-800 lbs of material when full.

I would ask them if they could get it from another store. If the store is not meeting your needs, go to the website and send an e-mail to corporate. I had to do that over customer service on a $30 item and the regional rep. contacted me and took care of the problem. The store manager dropped off a gift certificate at my house.
I'm not one who constantly complains, but can't stand poor service. In the same token, when I get good service I also send an e-mail and let them know.

I have the 4' KK Box Scraper. I can't pull it when it fills up. Actually, I've never had it full because my tires spin before that happens. My soil is very rocky and very hard. I only have a 23hp diesel sub-cut with ag tires.

You might want to look at the Woods GBC48 Estate Series Box Scraper (holds 9 cu. ft.) or the King Kutter 4' XB Series (sold at TSC). The walls are not as high and it's not as heavy as a standard size 4' BB. I'm going to get one of those.

It looks like the consensus is that I should stick to a 48". the thing with the XB series, is that it may have smaller pins than the CAT1, but I'm not 100% positive on that, probably not a big deal since I'm sure I can change them out.

Now to go and bug them at TSC or start looking around for a Woods!

I have a 60" with a 22HP Bota. It's too much BB.

But I have it and don't have a 48", so I use it. If I were buying one, I'd get 48".

Our heavy clay soil can't fill the BB at all, but for smoothing, it works ok. And I mainly use it for rear ballast for FEL work. It does great at that!

I don't know your soil or what you want to do, but if you can find an off size like 52", I think you'd be happy with it. The thing I don't enjoy about mine is that it is about the same size as the rear of the tractor, so I can't get up close to anything parallel wise.

A 52" would give ME just enough extra width to get up agaisnt a building or fence line and drag dirt. I have the 48".

I don't have any problems pulling my 48". I bought a lighter duty 15-48 Kioti box, made my Midwest a good maker. In the lightest boxes, I'm sure I could pull a 60" but I don't have clay soil, mostly heavy sandy soil. I'd love to go 60" and may in the future. My tractor is 21 gross HP.

Either woods or landpride does make a 54"ish BB - Or atleast it is listed on the brochure I picked up a long way back..

I was was also wondering about a 60" BB and a SCUT - I want a JD 2305 and my Dad has a 790, so I was thinking about something both could use..

I'm going to echo Wushaw... a 60" box blade is too big. I put a little over 4 hours on my 20 horse CUT this weekend using a 48" Rhino box blade, and when the blade is full that tractor is really gruntin'.

It seems ridiculous to me that TSC would make you wait over a month to get your box blade. I'd lean on them a little, tell them you're done with waiting and that they should get you one from another store or something. If you don't get any satisfaction, go buy one somewhere else. There's got to be a vendor who advertises here on TBN who would ship you one at a competitive price, and you'd probably end up with a higher quality BB.

Depending on your soils, I think you'll be happier with the 48" than the 60". I have a KK BB60 that I pull behind my Mahindra 2615 4WD. When it's full of heavy clay, I lose traction. I can pull a full box of sand or gravel OK, but the clay is just too much. The tractor is a gear model and is rated at 26 HP at the engine. However, I've been told that the 2615 actually dyno's closer to 29 or 30 HP. I just don't think you'd be too satisfied with a 60" behind a 20 HP tractor.

The KK XB Boxblade has standard Cat 1 pins -- they're just spaced closer together (Cat 0 spacing). This was done because the SCUTs have shorter lift arms, and its a bit more difficult to get them far enough apart to hook it up standard Cat 1 attachments. So, KK used the Cat 0 spacing on the XB series -- this allows someone to also switch out the pins and use the implement on an older Cat 0 tractor.

I have the GBC48 from Woods and am very pleased with the performance (JD 2210, 23 hp). Any bigger and I don't think I'd be very happy. It will pull a full box of dirt, however if it had been heavy clay it would have made the tractor loose traction. I find that operator usage has a lot to do with a BB's performance.

I have a 60" BB that I pull with my 25HP Kioti and turf tires. No problems at all. It will pop rocks out of the ground 1.5ft diameter. It works great for my gravel drive and making trails through the woods. I even think you might prefer 60" since it covers my tracks nicely.

I use my 60" BB on a TC-30, 4wd, loaded R4's, and it will stop my tractor dead in its tracks in virgin ground with the tines all the way down, the tractor weight is about 3600lb with the loader on. I have hard clay and some sizable rocks. Now used right the 60" is a good size for my 30hp tractor

As RonMar pointed out it has less to do with HP and more to do with tractor weight. Though you didn't mention what tractor you had.

I had the same delemma at my local TSC. All they had in stock was the 60"KK and 48" XB series. The 48" was much smaller, in width, height * depth. MUCH lighter than teh KK 60". Ironically, not much cheaper. I have a B7610 (1370 lbs) 24HP tractor, and I got the 60" KK BB. It works real well, even on virgin soil. (even rips out small rocks, roots and stumps with the scarifiers dropped all the way down.) With the scarifiers off, it works very well dragging dirt around, even full and uphill ! And I have the bar/turf tires (loaded)

No, it doesn't pull the 60" blade around with total ease. Though traction is lost FAR before I lose power. I can have some trouble with tough roots and hard dirt, but I just take not as deep of a "bite" until the ground gets dug up a bit.

I think a 54" BB would be perfect for the 7610. But not avail at TSC and would have cost me much more than my KK. As often as I REALLY use it (cleans all the leaves, branches and crap off the trails in the woods really well) it was a good deal.

Well I was ready to purchase a 48" from a local New Holland dealer on Friday, and when I got home Thursday, TSC called and told me I had won the Rototiller I signed up fro the weekend before. They said they still didn't hear back from their supplier on the BB.
So I may give them one more week, then I'll buy the BushHog BB from the other dealer.

BTW, my tractor is 4X4 JD 4100 /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
