A buddy loaned me his 72" RDTH heavy duty Bush Hog finishing mower last summer, but has recently needed it back. Now I am in the market and will only settel for a Bush Hog or a Woods. Problem is the Woods PRD72 is $2125 locally, and the same dealer has a deal on last years Bush Hog RDTH 60 for $1400.

I really like the 72" cut but I am only cutting two acres and wonder if I would be satisfied with the 60" model for $700 less.

I would take the 60" for 700.00 less, I have owned that exact one and I really liked the cut it produced...much better than my ZTR with taller grass.

Don't forget to grease the wheel height zerks religeously or they will bind up and quit swiveling on ya and start plowing on every turn.

Go with the 72"...by asking us you sound like you really want the larger unit and are just looking for someone to say it's ok. It's ok! I'm the same way. By next year you will have forgotten what you paid for it and you will be much happier with the larger unit. And also, you won't debate with yourself again every time that you go over your buddie's house and see him using the 72". Make yourself happy! It's only money!! Just cut back on going out to eat for the next couple months.

Unless you are mowing trees, you might really want to look at a Caroni finish mower. I sold them for several years and used a 72" rear discharge on my own yard. I NEVER had a warranty repair. I couldn't have been happier with the rear discharge cut. It was very forgiving on tall grass. There are several sources for every part on them. They now come with remote grease fittigs for the blades. That is a big improvement, you don't have to remove any sheet metal to grease them. My 2cents worth. Oh ! And you can get a 72" cheaper than a 60" BH.

Thanks for the answers but I went by the dealership on the way home. The Woods PRD 72 was one sweet looking piece of equipment ($2125). But the BH RDTH60 was $1,200 not $1,400 and I couldn't turn it down. I am now the proud owner of the 60" BH.

I bought the 72" bush hog. With the overlap the 5' seemed to take too much time. With the price of fuel lately a little time saving is money in the bank.

Congrats:) You said you were only doin 2 acres so that won't take long with a 60" cut.

I can see your point when mowing 10-20 acres but not 2. A 60 incher will make fast work out of 2 acres. That xtra $900.00 will buy another implement.

That $900 is probably enough to keep him out of the doghouse with SWMBO!!

David, you are right there. Plus the two acres of grass around my house has several trees and bushes to be mowed around and the 60" just made sense under the circumstances. Thanks for the replies and info.
