We bought a 60 Gal sprayer from TSC along with a 6 roller pump and the torque arm kit. We finally got around to setting up to test yesterday and while idling, the coupler that connects the PTO output to the pump sheared in half. Upon inspection, this piece is cast and it appears that the casting may have been faulty causing the break. While idling, the pump/PTO unit was rotating fine, the unit was spraying and while we adjusted the nozzles, the darned thing just sheared. The coupler/pump is held in place with a torque arm that uses a spring to enable some movement when under load. We can't figure out why the coupler sheared which is why we suspect the casting. Any thoughts? The attached pix show:

011 - Top View of two broekn halves
010 - Front view of two halves - brown spots on castings are the suspects
006 - Close up of suspect casting
004 - More clearly shows suspect casting brown spots.

I would take coupling back to TSC. I think they are pretty good about helping out with problems.. My wife's uncle bought one of their sprayers that mounts on an ATV (4 wheeler). The plastic spray handle split in two, he carried it back and the guy gave him one off of floor unit. Maybe you will be as lucky, and hopefully it was just a defective part and not anything serious with your pump.

Todd, I think they will fix that no problem. Mind if I ask what t costs new? My dealer wants 750.00 on a closeout price for a 55 gal one with pump. I thought it was high maybe. TIA, MP

Hate when new stuff breaks. When I looked at the pictures the words "pot metal" came to mind almost instantly. I'm sure TSC will take care of it.

Zoombah, yes, crappy Pot Metal was our first suspect. This thing should be made a little sturdier unless there's some reason it's supposed to act as the weak link.

Kossetx - We purchased everything last Feb but here's the breakdown:

Torque Arm Assy 3430-0540 $79.26
6 Roller Pump Series 6500 $178.76
Hand Gun Kit $94.00

Hand Gun Kit BB-308 $94.00
3 Pt. Sprayer LG-60-3PT-W $533.20
60 Gallon
Total $885.22

The only part that was not needed was the hand gun kit so w/o that it was $791.22 which included CA taxes @ 7.75%. That put's it right in that $750 ball park. Just make sure you know you need the pump and torque arm assy.

I have the same setup only with the Hypro 8 roller silvercast pump. It works fine. I just did 28 acres of Glyphosate and 2,4-D for the CREP program I signed up for.

Finished the spraying the day before Thanksgiving which is quite late here in Michigan. It is killing down fine, but we have had snow for a week, so I can't see the weeds. The weather is warming up so the snow will be gone in a day or so.

I think you got a bad casting.

Kevin, How far did the 55 gals go an acre. I know that will vary but I'm looking for roughly. I only have about 40 acres of pasture I need to spray and then not all the time. I'm wondering what size tank to get. Thanks, MP

I set up my sprayer to deliver 10 Gal per Acre @ 5mph. Get the biggest tank that you can handle if you're doing 40 acres at a time. Either that or 7 to 8 fill-ups.

I got about three acres a tank which would be about eighteen gallons an acre. I ran 25 lbs pressure and 4 mph.

I think I actually covered more acres per tank but I had some overlap as it was hard to tell where the last pass was. I did use blue dye in the tank which helped. I would like to find a cheap foam marker setup, but all I have checked are very expensive.

The snow is mostly gone today when I checked the fields. It is all killing down good and it doesn't look like I missed any spots.
