Backhoe 60 Hour report on B7610 and backhoe

Senor Edski-

Put me down as one vote for the trans. I am generally very good at wearing ear and eye pro when working outside with power tools, lawn tractors, etc but must admit that I don't find the 7610 engine to be loud at all. The trans whine gets to me after a while though, which is a good thing as it forces me to use my ear protection.

On a somewhat (OK, only kinda) related note: According to the manual, you should not operate the engine "at speeds faster than necessary" during the first 50 hours. I have taken this to mean below 2000 rpm. Can someone tell me what "faster than necessary" means?

I ran my B7610 at lower engine speeds for the first 25 to 30 hours. I don't remember exactly at what speeds but initially around 2,000 then probably 2,200 to 2,300. But, as I gained experience with both the loader and backhoe, I started running the engine faster. By 40 hours, I was running the backhoe at PTO speed except in really easy digging situations--that means it doesn't run slow very much.

Due to the irregular surface, I noted above, I drive around with the engine speed set at 1,500 to 1,800, much less and it works too hard or stalls on the up hill driving.
