Hate to hear of your injury. There is some good news tho, once you get the MMM adjusted it'll generally stay that way, kinda like set it and forget it 
As you found out, the whole MMM assembly is made very stoutly and can take a beating. I've been known to trim to close at times and tend to beat/scrape the left side and it still stays plumb.
