That's a great little spot you picked out there. How severe is the Winter at your place? I'm pretty sure rye will grow if it's not freezing over.
Winters are not that bad, it is east Texas. There are some days in the teens, usually warms up from the lows quickly. The place sees some snow every now and then, unfortunatly I've never got a shot of the house with snow. My BIL goes up all the time and I never can get him to take some pictures.
Tye does fine down here, some guys will overseed and area as a winter cover crop. A guy we use to lease (deer) from planted about 30-acres every year. With a little rain he'd get over 100 bales on 2 cuttings. Then turn the cows in there in march to clean up the rest. Some plant oats but I think they seem to die out quickly with a little heat.
