60" Tiller for Kubota L2501

If your soil is not soft that may make the tractor struggle. I was running a 5' the other day on a 50hp and had it bring the RPMs down in some soil (Clay).

I too wondered about that 60" tiller idea, for a tractor listed as having only 20.5 PTO HP.
The rule of thumb is 5HP per ft. of tiller width,... or 25 PTO minimum HP for a 5' tiller.
It could work, if his soil is very light or sandy.
Not much coastal Maine soil is very light or sandy though.
Does seem like a 48" tiller,( with 4" offset ?), would be a much better idea.

The operators manual lists a 54" tiller on the 2501 as reference.

A 60" rotary tiller seems like too much for an 18-20 pto hp. tractor imo. A 48" would seem to be a better fit.

LandPride RTR1258 tiller works fine with my B2650. New soil or gravel filled, heavily compacted dirt.
I am not comparing tillers, just the size of tiller with a 25/26 hp tractor.

It appears that comparing the LandPride RTR1258 to the King Kutter 60" tiller there are significant differences for power required, due to design differences.
I am certain that your LandPride works well for you in most any soil.
The LandPride specification is that it digs to 6-1/2", v/s the KK digs to 8".... thus ....more HP required for the KK.
The LandPride has 4 tines per flange, v/s the KK has 6 tines per flange .....thus ....more HP required for the KK.

As I stated. I was not comparing tillers.

I understand, but it would seem that comparing tillers is quite necessary when attempting to determine HP required.

Per your experience, a LandPride RTR1258 (58" tiller) will work well with a 25/26HP tractor (PTO-19.5 HP)
A King Kutter T-G-60 (60" tiller) probably won't, because it has more tines, and digs deeper, thus having a greater HP requirement.

I agree, the OP has picked out a 6 tine/rotor tiller which is a bit much for a 19-20.5 hp tractor. The 2650 has more power available than the 2501.

$1750 is a great price (plus $70 Ga. tax?) for the 60" Bush Hog. I am willing to bet that a Bush Hog dealer in coastal Me. would not sell for a price anywhere near that! SURE: Ugarte should definitely give Bush Hog a try, but he should not be surprised if the price is way high!
Bush Hogs are made just across the border from Ga., in Selma, Al., so shipping cost to a dealer near Canton, Ga. is minimal.
Shipping a Bush Hog tiller (ship wt. nearly 700 lbs.) 1450 miles to "coastal Me." is a very significant cost, and a dealer must recover that cost. Shipping distance to your Ga. dealer (Selma, Al. to Canton, Ga.) is only 250 miles. That is only 1/5th the distance to coastal Me. A local yokel with a 10,000 Lb. GVW trailer, a pickup, and a regular class D driver license, would be happy to haul ten Bush Hog tillers 250 miles for $400. That is $40 each!
Volume buyers like Blaine's, or Rural King, buy at MUCH better unit pricing, and get heavily discounted shipping rates, resulting in significantly lower overall costs, which they can then afford to pass on to the consumer.
He is inquiring about Taylor Way which is made also in Alabama. Maybe he'll get lucky. I would think that the manufacture waives shipping cost after a certain qty.

A Taylor Way tiller is a rebadged King Kutter per the OP.
I would be very surprised if a manufacturer would be willing, to free ship, even a whole trailer load of items to coastal Maine, 1450 miles away.
A low price truck freight rate is $3.00 per loaded mile. That would be $4350 to coastal Maine. ( LTL - less than trailer load is by weight, and is more expensive per item). The $4350 split among ten items, would be $435 per item, and that is assuming the Maine dealer would order ten items from the manufacturer at the same time. Of course, if he ordered 20 items, the shipping cost would be cut in half. That would have to be quite a large dealership though. Maine is very rural. There are likely less than a handful of volume new implement dealers statewide.
Another poster here on TBN has recently stated that he will haul tractors from Ga. to Baltimore for $3000, but to the Northeast he wants $1500 - $1800 more.

My thanks to all for this spirited and informative discussion. I have this day ordered a King Kutter Professional 60 inch tiller from Rural King for $1550.00 plus $325.00 shipping. Our implement options in this area are very few and far between. Whether this particular tiller is too much load for my tractor remains an open question, but according to my Kubota dealer a 60 inch tiller used for hobby vegetable growing is not. Watch this space; I’ll report back over time as to whether I have a lightly used tiller for sale.
