I have a 3320 and almost ready to buy a mid mount deck. My yard is flat. The dealer is telling me that the 72" is too big for that engine. John Deere says it will do the job. Looking for feedback.

I take it you're driving it off the mid pto, then yes it is possible it doesn't have enough torque for the 72" deck. Depends on the type of grass you're cutting as well. I have areas in my yard that I have to slow to a crawl with a 26hp / 48" deck. Everywhere else I can go at top speed.

5 pto hp for every foot of blade.

That's odd. I remember back when you could get a JD 855 with a 72" MMM. I believe it had ~19 PTO Hp.

MMM Spin a lot faster than rear pto, I should of disclaimed that sorry.:(

I have run 72" with 22 hp for years and it runs it just fine. If you are going to cut 6" tall grass then it will be really slow but for normal grass cutting, no problem.

I have a 4300 with the 72" MMM. Handles it just fine. If I go fast enough, up hill, with a heavy grass load, it can pull the engine down. But overall it is a good match for that tractor. Yours should be similar in HP

I had a JD 4200 (about 22 PTO HP) with the 72" mmm and used it for about eight years to mow my yard. The setup cut extremely well with no power issues for normal lawn mowing. I did mow a few overgrown areas where I had to back-off a little just to get the grass to clear the deck chute. The tractor had enough power to slip the belt on the deck if the deck clogged in that heavy stuff.

I have 3320 with 7-iron 72 Inch MMM. LOVE IT!! Never had any bogging down issues. I also have a 2320 with a 54 Inch MMM and with the same grass I cut with the 3320, I would stall the 2320 out quite frequently. I am very happy with my 72 In on the 3320.

Mine is the same., 3320 cab, 7-iron, 72" MMM, cab, air and all the extras. Never bogged down and only wish it had a bigger deck. Don't know why your dealer told you this, but a 60" will only disapoint you.

I also have a 3320 with the 72" 7 iron deck. I have cut grass 8-9 inches tall that was wet with NO power issues at all. As for the 60" deck, it doesn't stick out far enough from the wheels for edging. Get the 72 and get cuttin...Pay no attention to those guys that think you have to have 500hp to cut grass.

Same here. On flat I always mow in high range - no problems.

My 2210 has 17.7 PTO horsepower and handles a 62" just fine. It helps to keep the blades sharp and not let the grass get 6-8" high, but I've mowed through taller grass too a few times and you just have to slow down a bit.

The web says your 3320 has 25PTO horsepower so you'll have a bit more HP per foot at 72" than I do at 62". You'll be fine.

Why is that?

Greg

because the 60" don't give enough room to cut around things and you have more than enough power for a 72" mower. sounds like they may have a 60" they want to get rid of. if there was an option to buy a bigger one for my 3320, at a good trade in I wouldn't give it a second thought. plenty of power to handle it, and if things are really big you can kick in the loadmatch switch.

Ahh,I see.Makes sense about the 60 not sticking out enough for edge cutting.
I was hoping you weren't downplaying my 62D,because it is just as good at cutting as the larger deck. It is a shame thought that the 72 doesn't come in a drive over. That,I won't do without.
