I would be interested in some up close photos of that press jig for bending the coupons. Looks like something I could fab up rather cheaply for my 30 ton shop press. Have been searching the web for a design to use that utilizes scrap pile materials in lieu of buying metal.

Theres really not much to it. Some 6-inch C-channel, two 5/8-inch bolts and nuts, four 5/8-inch flat washers, Some flatbar welded to the ends of the 6-inch C-channel. The two 1 1/2-inch dies from the compact bender worked perfect! That way I didn't have to drill holes through the 1 1/2-inch cold rolled I have.

Shield Arc,

Funny you should have done this certain rod for a test.

When I was given my tombstone, it came with some rods of various size and specs. I have no idea of how old any of them are. Other than a little rust on the bare end, they don't have any discoloration to their flux coatings.

What is interesting is that the BEST rod I've run so far concerning looks, ease of use, and general appearance are the 6013 Forney rods. I've got some 1lb Hobart and can't say that I like them to much. I just can't seem to get the nicer looking welds of the Forney.

Keep posting, I keep learning...:thumbsup:
