Finally had to give in an replace 40+ year old horizontal tank/ac with DeWalt single stage, belt drive/ DXCM601 BlackFriday Purchase.Instruction manual specifically states the air compressor MUST be bolted toa laevel solid concrete surface, with 3/8 lag screws, vibration pads and concrete anchors. A Campbell-Hausfeld ytube installation for similar size also makes the point about anchoring as above.
i had planned to keep it secured to the wood pallet it came with since it has a sturdy 4 x 4 base. I also tend to have some heavy rain spill into the poll barn with a 1/4 inch that drys and runs off in a day or 2.
My older ac was mounted on 4x4s as well resting on a small wheeled cart for movement when needed.

My curiosity is why are the 20o30 gal vertical tanks on wheels not subject to the same risk of vibration causing rupture and possible explosion. Why would my wood mount be any more vibratory rissk than bolted to the concrete floor?

I have an 80 gallon verticle air compressor bought from HD. It is still mounted to the wood pallet just sitting on the garage floor and hasn't moved since installed (guessing about 5 years now). It replaced a 60 gallon compressor that also mounted to the wood shipping pallet and sat in one place over 30 years. Mine came with instructions on how to mount it on pads with anchor bolts in the concrete floor. I didn't want to drill the floor and mount it solid. I don't see a problem leaving it on the pallet.

Leave it on pad. My 60 gallon is mounted that way. I installed a 90 degree elbow at the bottom of the tank and attached a 12" section of pipe with a valve to allow draining water from the tank. Works great.

Probably just a disclaimer from the lawyers because someone fell asleep drunk next to one and it fell over on them.

I've had my 60 gal mounted on two 4x4's, sitting on the floor now for about 6 years. It doesn't walk or move at all. If I need to move it, I've been able to pivot it back and forth. Like Stimw said, probably because something stupid happened to someone.

I agree, liability if it falls one someone. The anchor bolts aren't supposed to be tight, just insurance against it getting pushed over.

Probably the only sway one of these would ever tip over is if someone pulled hard on the hose, or a truck snagged the hose while backing out. It could happen. But for your own shop, it's so unlikely. My vertical 60 gallon has a pressure hose going from the compressor to a regulator mounted on the wall. All service hoses connect there on the wall. I did bolt it down in the hopes it would be quieter and not rock back and forth on an uneven floor. For the condensate, I have a galvy 90 on the bottom going to a 1/4" pipe nipple and a 1/4" pipe ball valve. Then to a vinyl hose going outside.

Thank you all for the reply's to my original thread. I have followed the advice given. I am a check and and double check type of person so my next question is this: Just purchased the Harbor Freight Filter/regulator Combo model 68228 for the compressor. Installation instructions reads as follows. "Air pressure/ Filter/Regulator can be used to regulate air pressure between air supply and supply lines to tools and filter moisture contaminates from air lines." Under specs : Max Pressure 145PSI.
The De Walt specs shows : "Approx. cut out pressure at 155PSI." I assume that the outflow pressure from the compressor can not be controlled at its exit from the tank. I further assume that the intake pressure to the HF Filter does not need to be regulated since it will regulate the Air Pressure at outflow to the air tools to what I set. In other words do I need to setup an inline pressure regulator between the A/C and the HF regulator/filter? I am thinking not but I value the advice to set up the tool correctly.

Thank You again..."New Age Crips"

Your compressor should have a control switch (similar to the attached pic). By removing the cover there should be an adjustment screw that will allow you to lower the cutout pressure if you so desire. You say the cutout pressure is 155 and max input pressure to the HFfilt/reg is 145. IMO those pressures would be close enough and not need adjustment. If you do need to adjust the control switch it won't take much adjustment to lower.

Unless you need a lot of high pressure air I would bring the cutoff down to around 125.
In my opinion running a single stage that high if not needed is working it to hard.
My system is regulated to 90# out the regulator with a cut in at 85# and out at 115#.
