Mowing 62C mower deck won't lift or drop

I believe there is some confusion here on what type of mower lift we are talking about. The standard lift system uses the three point hitch linkage to raise and lower the mower. You need to use the rockshaft control lever to operate it. The optional lift system uses a separate cylinder that needs to plug a hose into one of the hydraulic couplers on the right side. You use the loader joystick to raise and lower the deck with this setup. I am guessing this is the type gtrman has. I don't see how the height adjustment knob can prevent the deck from going up. It can prevent going down or prevent holding it up in the highest position if not adjusted properly. the adjustable turnbuckles for either setup should be adjusted as short as possible without the arms hitting the stops when all the way up. If you do have the optional lift system, the three point hitch has nothing to do with the mower. If you have the optional one, I would try to switch the hose that plugs in the couplers to a different plug and see what happens. You will just need to move the lever in a different direction to operate it. Good Luck!

thanks guys.
can you detail the location of that "pushrod" and "paddle" a little more, so I will have a good idea where to look for that?
and also the location of the "bellcrank" mentioned earlier?

Ok, Here's how the mechanical MMM lift mechanism works. It all starts with part #27 in the 1st image (we'll call that the "tab"). The tab is supposed to rest on the top of the left 3 point hitch lift arm. When the lift arm goes up (3PH is raised), the tab rotates up with the arm and pushes on the pushrod (part #22-26) which in turn hooks up to the bottom tab on part #17 (lower image)- which is connected by a shaft to similar part #13 on the opposite side. The MMM lift arms (part #7) are connected to parts #13 & 17 by the little turnbuckles (parts #3-6). That's how the deck is raised and lowered with the mechanical linkage (independent lift is whole 'nother story). If you mower isn't raising, check that the tab is properly overlapping the left 3PH lift arm. If you don't have a quick-hitch installed on your 3PH then make sure you use the spreader bar to keep the 3H arms wide enough so the tab doesn't miss the arm.

Now, The height adjustment knob is pictured as parts#1-5 (lower image). It is a stepped knob. There is also a tab that sticks up from the cross shaft (part#11 in the lower pic). When the deck is lowered, that tab comes to rest on the stepped wheel and determines how low the deck drops. The stepped knob is plastic (I think) and CAN be stripped. That's why you want to make sure that the deck is ALL the way up before moving the knob (give the hitch control a second bump up just be sure). Anything else and you're dragging that tab along the plastic knob with the weight of the deck on it and chewing up the knob. If the deck moves sluggishly but the hitch works fine, it could be that the shaft (part #11) is binding - possible, but not probable. Lube everything well.

Hope this helps. If you print the diagrams and go out to your tractor, it will all make sense. With you deck off, crawl under there and look at the knob and the shaft. It's a pretty simple mechanism really.

Loogie, You are the man. That should help!!!

Answer to a previous question - yes, the 2305 has the hydraulic speed control for lifting/lowering the 3ph.

The cylinder in this picture is the optional lift. It takes the place of items #19 - 33 in Loogie's first picture if you have that option.

By the way, can anyone explain how to post pictures right in the text box like Loogie's? I have never been able to figure it out.

thanks JD110 ... you are right, my 2305 uses the "optional" lift system that's controlled by the joystick. That's the way mine has always been, so I was not aware some 2305 tractors operated the MMM with the 3-point hitch controls. Obviously, I was very confused when everyong kept referring to different aspects of the 3-point hitch... since none of that really applies to my machine.
Also, thanks to Loogie for posting the diagrams; that's a big help in understanding the workings of the height control knob for the MMM.
My 2305 is now back at the Deere dealer. I gave the dealer rep a thorough demonstration of what my 2305 was doing (or not doing), and he was embarrassed that they had returned the tractor to me in that condition. So, my hopes are that they will spend the time to really diagnose and repair the problem this time, and that I will not hear the old "everything is up to spec" excuse.
We suspect a hydraulic issue of some sort. Hopefully, I can report back soon to let everyone know that my 2305 has been fixed, and let you know what the problem was.
Thanks to everyone who has responded to this thread.

I have a 2305 with a 54 inch belly mower deck. It was slow to raise and lower. Remove the hydraulic hose at the cylinder that raises the mower deck. There is a silver metal disk about the size of a dime with a pin hole in the center(referred to as the orifice part E in the mower lift kit manual). The pin hole was blocked. I cleaned it out with a pin and replaced it. Deck moves properly now. Easiest way to get to the cylinder is to remove the rear tire.
