$64.21 versus $42.89

I have a John Deere 6310 tractor that lost about 7 gallons of hydraulic fluid. The manual calls for John Deere HY-GARD. I can drive 45 miles and pay $64.21 for each 5 gallon bucket of fluid at the John Deere dealership or I can drive 8 miles and pay $42.89 at my local NAPA dealer. The John Deere guy said he would sure like to see me use the John Deere HY-GARD. The NAPA guy tells me that NAPA meets all requirements of the HY-GARD lubricant. I sure would like to save the money and time by purchasing the hydraulic oil at NAPA. Do you think that is safe to do? Thank you for your answer.

I'd run with NAPA, of course the Deere wants to see the Hy-Gard in there, they also like for you to only use their parts too. I have used both- haven't noticed a difference except on the pocketbook. Your Deere is out of warranty, so that's not a reason, I can't find a reason to go with Deere at this time. If your tractor is leaking- another reason to use the cheaper stuff.

John Deere tries to scare people into using their products only. Like my machine will explode if I use anything not in a green package. That's their attitude. As long as it meets the John Deere spec, save your money.

BTW, 42 bucks is pretty cheap, read the label. there are a couple different grades of tractor fluid.

Looking at the spec's a few years back I didn't see very mcuh difference in the two!
