1964 Ford 2000
Hey guys, I ran into an odd issue. I am needing to replace the head gasket on my 1964 Ford 2000. When I go to order the gasket I find there are two bolt sizes, 1/2" and 7/16". This is my first time replacing the gasket, so I have no idea which size I have. I spoke with several customer service people and they said I needed to take it apart to measure the bolts before ordering. Or, I could order both gaskets and pay shipping and a restocking fee to return the one I don't need. I don't want to do either of those things!! Once I take it apart I want the gasket on hand to put it back together. With a minimum of five days shipping in between, I would like to find a different option. Is there any stamp, or markings on the head or somewhere else that will indicate which size was used? Thanks in advance for the help!!

Can you see any bolts outside the rocker cover? If so fit a socket to the bolt head. This will tell you the size of the bolts. Or remove the rocker cover to find the bolt to size.
Looking at this websites gasket details, it mentions Casting Numbers.

Take one accessible head bolt out far enough to determine its diameter, then reinstall it.
You're not working on the space shuttle.

There are exposed head bolts on the 134 engine used in the early 2000 tractors, put a socket on one, if a 3/4" socket fits it has 1/2" bolts, if an 11/16" socket fits then the bolts are 7/16". Simple as that.

For some reason I didn't get alerted to any of these replies. You guys were correct, there were a line of bolts exposed that I didn't see before pulling the exhaust. I got it, and everything's rebuilt!
