john deere 6410
Guys
I have lost all of the electrical on my tractor due to fire. Console,BCU,cluster,harness..the lot. Operating PTO/difflock/4x4 with on/off toggle switches.
How can I replace the stepper motor? Is there anybody who has done this?
What about "hobby" stepper motors?
To buy John deere parts will cost >5x market value of tractor!
Help

:welcome: to TBN

Do you have the service tech manual for the 6410?

What do you figure market value is for a replacement.. similar condition before fire, and similar hours?

Looks like they are around $40,000 plus minus 10k

Its a 2000 model. Here in South Africa book value is about $3000.
I dont have any manuals.
Look at the attachment..can it work?
These electronics guys need the specs of the motor, torque, number of coils etc..

The stepper motor driver module and the motor combined are about $1000 in a quick search I just did. This might be the better way to go. There is a driver module on Ebay and the stepper motor at All States Ag Parts. These are specific to the 6410.

Sir
Only problem with ebay is shipping to South Africa. Very few do.
The $1000 will be lot more to get it here(It takes R14 South african rand to make a dollar!)
Can you pls give me the exact ebay URL to save me some time?
Maybe I can get the specs of the motor and source it locally.

Being a holiday weekend it might be a day or two before you hear from some of the experts here. Tx Jim and jd110 for example both are very knowledgeable with Deere tractors.

Thanks for compliment BUT my JD knowledge stops with the 55 series tractors which ended in '92. jd110 is much more qualified than I. I know very little about the electronically controlled tractors except what I've read on the WWW nor do I desire to learn about them. I'll choose my 4255 that requires no electricity once engine is running to operate & drive.

I understand Jim, while some of the electronics are handy the failure rate does cause me concerns too. The more I look at used tractors the better the xx55 series look. I would think a 4255 or 4455 would serve my needs well as I just want a larger tractor to pull more dirt with a drag box. I should mention that you have gone to a lot of time and trouble to assist members here and should get recognition for it. Thanks so much.

jd110 is more current and is still actively engaged in Deere mechanical work and has consistently provided very good information on the forum. When he responds I take heed. He too has helped the forum tremendously.

My hat is off to both of you.

I here you guys about electronics..let me tell you, if you loose one of these Bcu's/micro controllers, youre in a world of hurt.
I cant wait for JD110's reply.
Maybe he tells me to ship it off to scrap yard!

You're welcome. Ditto about jd110. I wish tractor discussion forums were available when I served as a JD dealer service manager.

I do not know what to tell you but if a $450 part is what you need it is what it is. Not a deal breaker imo.
