The first thing anyone asks on those JD/Yanmar models is how does the trans/hydraulic fluid look - is it foamy or milky? Replace if so....and is there enough on the dip stick? Also you'll get advice to take the cleanable screen filter out of the sump, clean it, put it back in ....and replace the spin-on hydraulic filter. Problem is that those filters get clogged over the years and don't let enough fluid get pulled up to feed the hydraulic pump. All that will cost you one hydraulic oil change, too.

Once you do that, cross your fingers that the 3pt squeal will go away. As far as it holding a load up, a good test for a 3pt is to lift something that weighs a few hundred pounds and immediately close the 3pt drop speed valve under the front of the seat. turn it all the way clockwise & finish with strong finger pressure. Closed off like that, the 3pt should stay up for for awhile. New ones will stay up forever, some old ones will too - but most drop over the course of 15 to 30 minutes.

Good luck. Nice tractor & worth getting it going right.
