Ok, when the tractor was on the hill he had a bush hog on it so to take the load off it at start up I took the PTO drive shaft for the bush hog off. I know it spins constantly when in gear or not, but not sure of much else at this point. As for the generator I know before (more then a year ago) it was putting out 13-13.5v. It's now charging at like 12-12.6v. I know being the deisel that its a mechanical pump and as such it will run all day with out the battery, so the charge is enough to sustain the battery. Not quite as worried about the generator as we have a guy out here that can likely rebuild it, and if not it may well be due time to convert it to an alternator finally. LOL.

12v is not charging.. static battery voltage of a charged 12v battery is 12.6v

test the genny.. full fild it.. see if the charge come sup. if not, bypass the regualtor cutout then full field it again.

if charge comes up eplace the regulator, if not, then motor test the genny.

slip belt off, jumper bat to arm, then full field.. genny should spin like a motor. no spin = no charge.. spinning USUALLY = charging.

Hmmm. I'm liking talking to you soundguy. You have some pretty good ideas for testing and other things (ie for the flat). I'll try to out later. I got a Windstar to contend with for the moment but when I make it back to the Massey I'll try to make a temp motor out of the genny. That test should be quick enough to get results.

when i say full field you will either need to ground the field or apply it to battery. whichever ciccuit type it is will determine which you do.

a circuit needs to ground the field to full field it

b circuit needs to power the field to full field it

disconnect the regulator during this.. that way, if you don't know circuit type you can try a circuit first...

Ok. I haven't been on for a bit but I have figured out enough that the Gen is still working (very light mind you) which surprises me since noone has done anything with it since...... Well before my grandfather passed in 94. Now I plan on taking it to someone and see if he can rebuild it. If not we'll be in the market for the kit to convert it over to an alternator. Any rate the help is much appreciated. Keep it up guys, you help people like me keep machines (especially the vintage ones) running. Cheers Pat

as long as it has no pto load on it.. the pto engaged isn't much of a big deal.

I'm not up on the 35/135 as to whether it is independednt pto or live pto.. if live.. just mashing the clutch kills the tranny anyway. if independent, then the hyds won't be pressureized to engage the pto at startup anyway, unless the pto clutch has waprped or piled up discs..e tc.

esy to test the gen with a volt meter onthe battery before and after start. can full field it too.

135's will (for the most part) have a 2-stage clutch "live pto". A few 135's were built with hydraulic actuated IPTO. THey are fairly rare.

A small percentage of the early ('64 tru '67) 135's were built as 135 "Custom"s. They were low cost alternatives to fully equipped 135's. The 135 Custom had a single stage clutch and did NOT have live power. The Standard issue 135 DELUXE came with EITHER a 2-stage clutch, 6-speed tranny, and live power, OR 6-speed + MultiPower (ie 12 speed) Some of those MP equipped 135's did indeed have IPTO. Later in the production run, the 6-speed (w/o MP) was replaced by the 8-speed (4X2) tranny with 6-speed/MultiPower available as an option. (Same applies to the similar MF150's) The Custom was dropped sometime in early '67. Later edition MF parts books don't even support the 135 Custom in terms of single stage clutch parts
