So, I finished tilling some summer plots and was about to load the tractor up for the day. I pulled the tractor up to the back of the trailer shifted into neutral to get off and move some stuff off the trailer. As I started to move whatever it was in the way, I noticed a different sound/tone from tractor (almost a deep sounding chatter/shutter). I immediately turned toward the tractor and noticed the tiller being lifted back up, but it appeared to be a shuttering type of upward movement. I figured the lift was just bringing it back up. I get it on the trailer and start to bind it down and notice a fresh drop of oil at the backend of the tractor. I start looking the tractor over and I notice there is fresh oil (looked as if it sprayed from both lift arms). While it is not pouring from there now, it is leaking quite a bit. In the 1hr drive back to house I have about a basketball size oil stain on the trailer. I have the books on my tractor but with age of the tractor they are repros not originals so making heads or tails of some pictures is nearly impossible.
I tried looking up some videos on youtube because it seems everyone is making videos of repairs, mods, and whatever. The closest thing I found was a top plate rebuild of an 8n. However, they didn't do any work to the lift arms.
Now my questions.
1. Are there seals at the upper lift arms? I have tried locating some from vendors I normally buy parts from but have not seen any.
2. Do I need/should I rebuild the top plate (piston/housing) as well?
3. Anyone know if the top plate layout and functionality of an 8n and 2000 are similar? Not for parts, I know they are different but was wondering if I could use the video as reference if I rebuild the top plate.
