670 rolls of sod, a rake & a 10 year old son???

I agree with some others that its do-able. He is gonna need some Advil and beer though and he will probably cry when he starts day two. The kids wont make it though. They'll peter out pretty quick.

If he can a get a few adults to help or hire it wont be to bad. At our old house we had 9000 sq/ft of sod installed. There were five guys and they we done in about three hours. These were pros that do it for a living though.

I'll add that a lot may depend on the sod rolls. If he is getting the small rolls were back to Advill and crying. If he call and get the large rolls instead and a machine to roll them out then he'll be able to enjoy the beer vs drowning in it.

When I read the title of this post I assumed that you were talking about large rolls of sod, 4' wide and quite long.. an actual roll. They weigh over 2000# and you use a jig mounted to the 3pt hitch to roll them out. Much easier and a lot less seams. These days I always use big rolls unless I'm in a very tight area.

That sounds like a lot of work, with the minimal labor involved.

I got a lucky deal the past weekend. My wife's mom is having a new house built. They sodded all around the house, but she wanted a garden on one side of the house. I volunteered to pull it up, if she'd let me have it (about 1.5 pallets worth). It'd only been down for 2 days, but it still had started to take root. To make matters worse, she left the lawn sprinklers on the morning I planned to do it. The ground and sod was so wet, the job was a nightmare. Can you say "mudfest"?
I graded the bank near the pond behind my house and laid the sod out. It makes for a real nice place to stand and fish or picnic. I had to buy a PTO pump so I can keep it watered. I just hook ithe pump up to the little kubota and run it to 2 sprinklers. Works pretty slick.

Alright, alright. I'll take a photo tonight when I water. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I actually bought the pump so I can build a sprayer, but found it works pretty well for this use. At least until the sod gets established.
