I would like to mention on the topic of bush hog blades that I dont believe for a moment that those are made from anything other than mild steel. Explanation: first they are too soft to be high carbon steel. When I sharpened mine and reshaped them because they were wearing underneath, they ground off really easy. Second reason is because replacements are so cheap and the holes are punched rather than drilled, at least on the ones I saw and I believe them to be made just like lawn mower blades, cheap and easy to replace. If they are heated at all, it is so the edges can be pressed out to shape.
