Well 10 beers, like dis. You best served to set aside few hours and read EdCraig on all de fancy mixes and particularly how dey came into being. Ed was right der in middle of it workin for gas company, and calls it like he sees.

I read some of Ed's writing and was pretty sure Ed wrong here & there. Foundout Ed was right.
Pay some attention to what he tell bout enginitwits & Purchasing screwin up weld lines.

You read enough Intrnuts you start to think girlygas control or minimize spatter. You just buy right girlgas and set regulator at right pounds and right cfm and set digital goobiewasser on and you got less spatter. Course 3 days later genius postin on how to clean liner and do he need a new tip or can he file.
HINT, 1 step forward = 2 steps back. Weld ain't in de machine. Weld between man's ears. Learn how to run machine like welder, NOT hot glue gun decorating cake. Once you do you might be ready to deal wid spatter.

Maybe 2021 we talk about cylinders and little bottles and dirty deals in gas business.

I ran the 6010 with dcep. Are you saying its a reverse polarity rod?

Actually you can run ether polarity. Better penetration with dcen with less splatter. Try both ways. Back min the old days we did our ASME code pipe test coupons with 6010 dcen all the way. Times, weld procedures change, and new rods come on the market. I am still old school, not really fond of 7018 even though I have it and use once in awhile for single pass on 12 gage-1/8" stuff. Keep the container sealed.

I am on my phone. I thought I had posted pics from it before. I don't see the little tree. Has Carl been on in a while? Great guy, I have met him.

Ok, pic 3, 1/4 plate clamped to the bench, reach under which makes it overhead, 6011 no bevel. Pic 4,7018 2 passes, 2 I font remember and 1 is 1/4 plate no bevel vert 6011. Ok, 2 is 7018, a little shaky as I rarely do this anymore.

On a side note, I used a 3/32 7018 today that was in excess of 20 years old. Kept in a PVC rod holder. Seemed to run fine enough for me. How long does the weld have to dry before I use it?

6 maybe 7 hour depending on humidity.

First time fellow asked me dat had to be around 94, he was good block mason needed work on his mortar mixer been neglected for years. Let him do cleanup wid needle gun and loose his hearing. Put new stubs and wiper holders on beater shaft and told him ready to go back to work. He looks over job and asks how long gotta set up before he can use.

Thought bout de question fer a minute, considered is frame of reference and told him it be fine by time he got to job in morning.

Figured he like farrier, works half de day wid head lower den azz, no way you convince either of anything. Worse den tryin to convince college graduate works in 8 x 8 cell all day wid a desk. Neither got any frame of reference.

Like some posts?

btw, I inherited a weld dryer from my grandfather. He was born in the 1800s and it was his first.

Of course it's pre-WW I and coal-fired.

Can you post pictures? Pre WW-1 pretty much make it a dryer for O/A welding since electric arc welding didn't get goin as commercial process till after dat war.

I asked a guy about welding or brazing a crack in the waneshaft trunion. He talked me into leaving it there for a new paint job too.

Then he got the virus and his wife says the paint booth is three months behind. Sorry, no 'before' pic but I can post one when I get it back.
