I traced a recent problem (battery not re-charging) to the "voltage regulator" and replaced it. Afterward, I checked the voltage at the battery, which appeared high at over 16 volts, around 1.500 RPMs. Put a slow charge on the battery to full charge, then tested as specified in my manual, at the output terminal for the in-dash warning lamp, where I obtained a reading around 13.5 volts. I again checked the voltage at the battery, still at 16 volts. I think the specs allow for the charging rate to be over 15 volts, depending on temperature. It has been 75 to 80 degrees here lately.

I figure there is a reason the manual says to check the voltage at the warning lamp lead instead of at the battery, but is it normal for the reading to be that high at the battery or do I need to make adjustments inside the regulator to keep from cooking the battery? Thanks.

After additional research and consideration, thinking that I need to get the max voltage down to 14.8 to 15.3v at the battery, but will only try to do that through the regulator adjustment after triple checking grounds/connections........... Any input is appreciated!

Makes sense to me that is what voltage regulators do.
