Ford 1710
Hello Guys, I will be the first to admit I only know the basics about Hydraulics. So I am looking at installing a 7108 loader and control valve on my Ford 1710. Where I am a bit confused is that my control/diverter block on the Ford 1710 Tractor is only 2 ports; Pressure and Return. The control valve for the 7108 is 3 ports; which from what I gather is Pressure, Return, Sump or Tank. I am just curious if its as simple as plugging the Sump or tank on the control valve. I am not really certain what this Sump or tank Extra port does so if someone could enlighten me that would be great.

Thanks again.

Bryan

ok sorry I thought that it was pretty clear, let me try again... So my ford 1710 hydraulic Control/diverter Block on the tractor has two ports for hooking up hydraulic accessories See picture. One ports is pressure out, and one is pressure return. The loader Control joystick I am using from the 7108 loader has 3 main ports that are supposed to connect to the tractor. The other 4 are for the cylinders on the loader. So in the picture attached its line 27, 28 and 29.. From what I understand these three ports are for Pressure out, pressure return and sump or tank. I am not really sure what the sump or tank is. Can the extra port on the loader control joystick just be capped? I am curious if on the 1920, 2020 tractors have the hydraulic systems in series and my ford 1710 isn't and it s a parallel system. Thoughts??

Pressure is flow from the pump to the valve. The return on your 1710 will need to accept the power beyond flow from your valve. The return port from your valve should be connected anywhere you can get the oil back into the tractor transmission/rear axle housing without restriction. You cannot plug off the return and you should not tee the return and power beyond together.

I am not familiar with your loader or tractor.
From what I see, I am guessing flow is into the valve in line x and returns in line y under normal operations and the third line z is a line for power beyond.

Ditto what RickB said.

I was thinking that the loader and control normally go on a tractor where the hydraulic system is in series and the ford 1710 normally has the system in parallel. Does anyone know of a control valve that is only a two port to match the tractor?

There is no "parallel" in an open center system. A "two port" valve is not your best solution. Stick with the three port and do whatever is needed to make a sump return passage for the third hose.

Does anyone have a service manual for the ford 2120 or 1920? I would like to understand the hydraulic system and the difference from my 1710.
