Re: 72\" 914mmm/uncut rows

Nothing like someone who actually has one, to set things straight /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I see the same shaggy cut when I've raised my Woods RFM to cut at 3" - 3-1/2". Seems as if the grass just doesn't lift up straight enough. Tried high lift blades once, but they didn't seem to make much difference and appeared to put more of a drag on the tractor when mowing in heavy stuff.

Re: 72\" 914mmm/uncut rows

Been away from TBN for a while but I did figure out my problem. It is the front wheels matting down the grass. I can really tell it now that is is getting dryer. The following day after mowing you can really tell also cause the grass stands back up and you have a 6" wide path that did not get cut.

So I am looking for some High Lift Blades or even thinking you use to be able to buy them kits to install on your blades for de-thaching. I think they might help standing the grass back up and cut on the back side of the mower. The shorter I mow the less the problem is but I hate mowing so low this time of year. We haven't had rain in three weeks.

Let me know if you find some replacement blades for this unit other than the dealer... Thanks!!

Re: 72\" 914mmm/uncut rows

I was hoping this thread would be a dead horse, but I guess my problems still exist. I have been waiting 3 weeks now for my dealer to come out and re-level the mower deck. I think I know why they haven't been here yet??? Called their competitor to see if they would come and level it. The competitor who only sells New Holland told me he would not come and level it. Anything else they would service under the warranty and even out of warranty. I asked why, and he said the 914 mower is an ok mower and just an ok mower!! He then proceeded to tell me the two problems I am having with the mower and he was absolutely right before I told him. He told me the best thing to do was to learn to live with it. I think that is why my dealer doesn't want to come around because he knows there won't be anything he can do. The competitor said if you have one that works, great /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif, but if you have one that doesn't /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif, there is nothing you can do to make it work.

Re: 72\" 914mmm/uncut rows

Murph,

Sorry to hear that /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. I'd try calling your dealer again. If he can't make it work, he should replace it or give you your money back.

My 60" deck is cutting like a champ. Just lowered it to 3" so I am able to more easily pick up the apples that my "orchard" (3 dozen overgrown apple trees) is dumping on the lawn.

If I were closer I'd come over & help you beat it into submission. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I know it ain't anybody's idea of fun, but, how about taking the next rainy weekend day & going thru the setup yourself per the manual from start to finish.

Good luck & I hope you get this resolved.

Re: 72\" 914mmm/uncut rows

sell the MMM. Buy a Zero turn. You'll never regret it.

Re: 72\" 914mmm/uncut rows

Belle,

Your right I would never regret it until there is 24" on snow sitting in my driveway. Then I thinks I would. I also use the tractor for landscaping and mowing prairie grass. The prairie grass is pretty rough and don't think that zero turn would work there.

Re: 72\" 914mmm/uncut rows

DON"T sell the tractor. Sell the deck for a grand use it towards a used ztr for about $4,500. Having a zero turn and a tractor is living large.
I went thru the similar mmm routines with my tractors and my 3 acre lawn. A dedicated mowing machine makes all the difference in the quality of the cut. You'll also be putting less hours on each machine.

Re: 72\" 914mmm/uncut rows

You may also want to look at a rear mower.

Like I said before... a rear John Deere 272 Grooming Mower was better at cutting grass.

The ZTRs are nice but if the tires are not big enough they will bounce your guts pretty good - leaving you with a side ache. Most have good suspension seats to help. Ride the thing first before you decide.

But really - you should get the NH MMM to meet your expectations. Mine does - but I had to lower my expectations.

Re: 72\" 914mmm/uncut rows

You might try removing the FEL. At times, grass conditions just won't allow much traffic or weight compression. You might gain the advantage without that extra few hundred pounds pushing the front tires into the grass.
