It has always amazed me in how much work you can accomplish with any diesel powered tractor for a gallon of fuel. Think in terms of shovels and wheelbarrows or cutting with a "sling blade" or lifting logs or what ever you do with your tractor.. The fuel, high as it is in price is a bargain in what you can do with your tractor powered by it.

L5030HST 2006 model, running at pto speed bushhogging I use about 1.3 gph

My 5240 uses about .8 gph doing a variety of tasks, finish mowing, loader work, backhoe, etc. I want to run a full tank through sometime brush hogging heavy stuff to see what the fuel consumption is.
