72\" MMM blades

I noticed my Kubota MMM blades are not sharpened, but have what appears to be an intentional blunt leading edge. Is this done for longevity of the edge or to prevent cuts when shipping? I have two sets, one that was on the machine when new and one set new in the box. Neither is what one would call sharp. I have heard a couple different theories, but nothing that specifically pertains to Kubota.

I pulled out a new blade. It has a little less than 1/32” flat edge at cutting edge.
I have attached a picture of it.
I took the blade new from its original box.
Notice the nicks in cutting edge on left side blade. That’s how I got it out of the box. I tried to put a nick on the cutting edge after taking the picture with handle of a 10” adjustable wrench. The results are in the center at top of picture.
The right blade is of a blade that is currently on the tractor. I have cut my 2 acres of lawn with the blades 5 times. Since it is going to rain all day. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif I’ll be sharpening them today.

Ron,

That first blade certainly looks like mine. I am going to check out that web site next. I have always sharpened mine with a file, so if I don't hear a reason not to put a razor edge on them soon, I will. The down side of course, is if you are hitting things /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif the narrower leading edge will curl and chip terribly.
