Re: 72" MMM wheels

Mike:
The deck does a great job of cutting. The blades are heavy duty and will last several seasons before they need to be replaced. The ones on my 7100 would only last one season.
I'll try setting up the mower per your suggestions. Sound like it should solve problem. But I'm going to wait until Kubota Rep. looks at it. Dealer thinks arms that wheels are mounted on may be welded wrong.

Re: 72\" MMM wheels

Ain't it the truth, Ron? I think I've finally done it; I've got so much equipment to maintain my little 10 acres that I can't even maintain all the equipment./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif I had the carburetor overhauled on my spray rig because I didn't have time to do it myself, then I replaced the carburetor on my DR trimmer/mower myself because all the small engine shops are 6 to 8 weeks behind, my little Homelite pump won't start (been intending to get to that for the last couple of months), now I can't get the chipper/shredder to start - going to have to pull that carburetor to see what's wrong, and hope my chainsaw will start this coming week - hasn't been used in over a year.

Re: 72\" MMM wheels

My Ford is the same way. I use the position control to hold the tires about a 1/4" of the ground, works great no scalping nice and smooth.

Re: 72\" MMM wheels

Ron,I'd say the chances of something being welded wrong might very well be right. For that kind of wear, with no more hours thats on the mower, something must be up.I have mowed 5-7 acres a week for the past 3 years and the casters still look new compared to the ones you've replaced.

Re: 72" MMM wheels

Kubota Rep. Looked at my mower last week. He felt there is something not right about left arm construction. He is going to check and see what the correct dimensions are and fix the problems with uneven load on all wheels. Will report back when repair has been made.

Re: 72\" MMM wheels

Woodstock, your BX has a suspended deck and the B series has a ground contact deck. This and the tippiness of the 7500 (opinion) are the reasons I did not purchase the nearly new 7500 that my dealer was trying to sell me at a substantial discount. The guage wheels drug through my ground and dug furrows and wobbled on the rear castors and in addition to that despite my spending a whole day adjusting, greasing, cleaning they still dug furrows and left small ruts. I told him to come get it and bring me the BX. When the 7500 and 2410 come out with a suspended deck and height control knob accesible from the seat I may will consider trading for one or the other but that MMM deck with the guage wheels did not make me very happy. The unit had about 20 hours on it and what is intersting here is that it had slick wheels on the rear--now I realize they were just worn down perhaps from the rubbing and wobbeling? Why don't the B series have a suspended deck option or at least offer a larger flotation type tires? J

Re: 72\" MMM wheels

I have the 60" mmm on my B7500 - don't have problems at all
with wheel ruts, etc. Lawn looks great - 3 acres.

May be that the 72" is just that much heavier that is will cause all of those problems.

I would think that with a suspended deck, you would get a
very uneven cut (depending, of course, on how smooth and
flat your lawn is to begin with). With the deck rolling on the
ground, it will follow the contours a little for finely than a
suspended deck.

Also, doesn't the suspended deck dig into little hills? I've never looked at one, so I assume that it does not have wheels
in front that would let it roll over little mounds, and that the
front edge of the deck would "top off" the mounds.

Re: 72" MMM wheels

Ron,
I have been following your post with interest, as I still have the front right on mine doing spins. I tried taking a file to the mounting holes and lowering the side that was spinning. With the deck off I got it so all four tires are hitting the ground and it seemed balanced. But when I reinstalled the deck I noticed that when I hooked up the front, it would pull the front wheels up a little. So I took off the front and adjusted it longer by about 1/4". Just tried it and the one wheel still spins, but not as much as before. Let us know what Kubota says about your deck, as this seems to be a problem for a few of us.

Re: 72\" MMM wheels

Von, you have fiddled with this more than me. Have you measured the deck heights as Mike suggested. I havent. Is it the whole deck that's twisted off level, or just that right front wheel.

I've seen this better cut issue between suspended and ground contact decks argued both ways on different points. It is not clear in my mind what the answer is. You can, of course, suspend a ground contact deck by lifting it slighly off the ground with the hydraulics. What kind of decks do the expsive lawn machines use?
